NWR--Calling all Teachers!!

NWR--Calling all Teachers!!

Hi there!
Does anyone know if their district has already done call backs or interviews for the next teaching year?

I have sent my resume out to a few districts and schools on LI and have not heard back from any, which is so depressing, so I was wondering if interviews haven't started yet or if they're already over.

If anyone knows of any elementary schools that are hiring classroom teachers, please pass the info along--I have two years of experience teaching first grade in NYC and I graduate next month with my masters in El. Ed.
Thanks!!

I have sent out a bunch of resumes also and have not heard a single thing. Actually, a few districts that I've heard about are laying people off, not hiring, unfortunately!

You might want to consider checking out the diocese... There are usually some jobs around... luckily I still have my job for next year although a public school job would help with all of these wedding expenses!

Good luck!

I might be wrong but I think most districts will not start doing call backs until the budgets are approved. I know that my district usually doesn't call back until then.

Do you guys know approximately when the budget cuts/issues tend to get resolved? I am assuming it would happen before June??!
Thanks for info..at least that means I still have a chance if schools haven't started call backs yet!

I know that a lot of public schools do a lot of hiring over the summer as well.. I was working in a catholic school for 2 years and got hired in a public school in the last week in August in 2002... I felt horrible about leaving my other school but my principal was the best ever and she totally understood now thank goodness I did because I don't know how I would ever afford finishing my masters and getting married

I’ve sent out resumes too...I haven't heard anything yet. I have been in a catholic school for 3 years now...and It's so hard trying to save for the wedding on my salary. I'm almost done with my masters too...and I better be in a public school before I have to start paying back the loan.

Re: NWR--Calling all Teachers!!

I went on an interview in Bay shore and they already called back... a friend of mine was hired... they hired 8 as of now maybe more later

i also went on an interview for sachem and they already called back... i just spoke to someone that was hired... and they said they would notify by March 27... they might hire more but they hired for the new middle school and 50 kindergarten classes

i am going on an interview in Brentwood tomorrow.... wish me luck
it is with the superintendent

my problem is that i get so nervous... i am a bad interviewer

those are the only districts i know of... many will do hiring over the summer after may 13 the budget vote

I also know many districts that are laying off teachers not hiring

to tell yhou the truth i have been getting interview to schools that my resume was personally handed in... except bayshore.. i sent it directly to the principle that interviewed me... he told me i was 1 out 150 interviews out of 1200 applicants

sachem had almost 8,000 applicants

IMPORTANT... i am a few classes shy of my masters... i stopped because many people told me places will not hire you with a masters... they have to pay you almost $10,000 more
HELP US!!!!!!!!

Re: NWR--Calling all Teachers!!

I am getting so discouraged about finding a public school job. I have my masters and I also have 1 1/2 years of teaching experience in a private school and I have sent out my resumes to numerous schools.

I may seriously have to consider getting into another career. I didn't think it would be this hard to get a teaching job esp. with experience.

I am looking in Westchester County, so if anyone has any info, please pass it along.

I have seen a lot of postings for Westchester County, check out the website olasjobs.org (if you haven't already!) Good Luck!

It is so hard to get a job on Long Island without a connection, so if any elementary teachers out there would be willing to 'submit' my cover letter and resume to their school, I would REALLY appreciate it! FM me if possible.

After you send a resume to the school or to the district office, do you call and follow up? Some people say I should and others say not to, what do you guys think?

Thanks!

That's what I was just going to say. I know it's very frustrating. Also, it's a good idea to send out resumes again in July/August because people will decide last minute if they are retiring, not coming back from maternity, or if enrollment has gone up. Good luck!

Re: NWR--Calling all Teachers!!

this is horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i just went on an interview today... it went very well BUT they are not hiring
they only have 2 retirements this year and they hire within so i will see if i get a permanent sub job
they hire about 15 a year
i met with the superintendent...

i spoke with a principle in Middle country school district............they are laying off 76 teachers next year maybe less after the budget vote but definately not hiring this year
1/2 at the elementary level and 1/2 at middle and high school

Re: NWR--Calling all Teachers!!

I know that my district is coming to the end of a huge retirement block. In the last 7 years they have hired over 150 teachers but this year we have a small retirement amount. They offered (my district) a HUGE incentive and a lot took it.

Re: NWR--Calling all Teachers!!

So, do you think it is helpful to call the actual schools and districts that I have sent my resume to and follow up, like ask when they plan to interview and verify they received my resume??
I feel so silly calling...

Re: NWR--Calling all Teachers!!

if you will do that then you should but i feel silly doing that...
i wish i had the guts to do that

i am going to send out another round of resumes soon

right now i just keep hearing and reading in the newspapers how many teachers are getting laid off and it is getting sooooo fustrating
