NWR- Calling all teachers!

Hi ladies! I am just wondering since I will be doing my student teaching soon- Did you find it a lot of work? Is it more work than a regular semester w/ classes? I'm getting a little nervous.

It's elementary school if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance!

I loved my student teaching, it is a lot of work and a learning experience. Just stay organized. It was exhausting sometimes. But its worth it. After 6 years of teachign I wouldn't trade it in for anything.

It's MUCH more work than your regular classes. In the beginning you are really observing and just helping out but there will be a point where you are teaching most of the day. It may be different where you student teach, but I was constantly bringing work home.

On the other hand, I have had many student teachers and feel I help them out too much. I can't help it, I love to be in control!!!

Just pay close attention to the routines of the classes you are in and ask LOTS of questions to your cooperating teachers. I figured out how I wanted my classroom set up and some of my routines when I was student teaching.

I did special ed. student teaching, 2 college courses and wrote my thesis the same semester. Yes it is a lot of work, but definetly doable. Don't worry about it, it is one semester of your life and it is definetly worth it. All us teachers are here to help if you need.

I am a second year teacher...so student teaching was not that long ago for me...I did find it to be a lot of work...but well worth it...I found that the harder i worked while student teaching, the more real it felt...what i mean is if you take a back seat and kind of just follow everything your cooperating teacher does you may not get the real experience...do all that you can and save all of your lesson plans...they are def helpful in the future...i did not student teach in elementary...i am a middle school teacher...enjoy it and good luck! It is overwhelming at first, but worth it!!!

Thanks, you make a good point. That may be difficult for me because I am naturally the type where if someone else takes the lead, I just go with the flow.... but I am hoping to get hired possibly where I will be student teaching so definitely taking more of a leadership role sounds like a good idea!

On another note, I can't believe how many tests we need to take to get certified! I am taking one this weekend

I loved student teaching. I found it to be a ton of work but nothing you can't handle if this is what you know you want to do. I student taught in 3rd and 6th. It will take a while for you to get used to but its the best preperation you will have for teaching. I learned more student teaching then all my years of undergrad and grad

the teats are the worst..;.they are not bad just time confusing and annoying just do your best
Student teaching was so much fun. I loved it.it is alot of work but just follow the teacher take criticism and don't worry about it. that was my biggest compliment was that I took the critisim well...i don't mean in a bad way at all, i took it and ran with it for my next lesson. I did not do much observing of the teacher. I was kinda thrown into teaching but that was ok for me, if i waited I would have been more nervous

I took 2 courses while doing my full-time student teaching. There were moments when I wanted to explode from the stress, but it was such a great experience in the classroom that I tried my very best to look past the stress that the other classes were causing me.

Enjoy it and take it all in!! Make sure you get copies of things your cooperating teacher does!!!

i student taught in elementary school too, it was a lot of work, but it was work that i acutally wanted to do, which is plan lessons and teach, rather than just write stupid papers and look up journal articles, i learned more in my student teaching experience than i did in my first 3 years of college combined...youll love it!

ditto.

I always say I learned more in the 8 weeks I student taught than I did in my 4 years of college!!!

It's hard work, but it's 'fun' work. At least it was to me. I'm a dork

I am going to say that it will be a lot of work, but the more work you do, the more you learn.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments! I probably wouldn't be as nervous for the experience if I wasn't planning a wedding at the same time!! I just hope it doesn't get too stressful. Honestly though I think it will help keep things in perspective and I'll be anticipating the wedding so much that I won't let the stress get to me too much.

Thanks again everyone!
