NWR: Calling all Teachers--Part 2!!

Hi again fellow teachers!
I sent out an e-mail about a month ago to find out if anyone knows if their district in LI is hiring elementary teachers for 2004-2005, so I wanted to post it again...anyone?! (i have taught 1st grade for two years in the Bronx).

Also...now that it is May and I still have not gotten a single call back, I am starting to panic...anyone hearing back from schools in Nassau county yet?

And finally, any substitutes out there, what is life like as a sub? I cannot decide if it is worth it to leave my job teaching first grade in the Bronx next year to be a sub in a good district with the hopes of getting a permanent classroom position in the near future??

Thanks, sorry for all the questions!!

My district is only hiring 6 new teachers in addition to replacing any retirees. But I can tell you that they are not calling back until after the budget vote.

farmingdale is cutting 27 teachers
middle country is cutting 76 teachers
many schools are waiting until after the budget vote the wait is killing me
i have gotten called from a few districts in suffolk... i am not really looking to go far into nassau

personally i would not giove up your job until you have one on LI... the competition is unreal
your best bet is to have a friend personally hand it in or someone you know

thanks for replying you two! Any advice on how to get hired or at least get an interview? If I sent my resume to a district about a month or so ago, do you recommend re-sending it??
Thanks again!

i am getting my master's in education right now, and i know from all the recruiting information i see - getting an elementary job on LI is very, very hard right now. there is little turn-over at that level and most districts are cutting positions.

personally - i think you should stay put. if you really want to leave - your best bet on LI is probably a leave-replacement - but there is no guarantee that one will come up where you are subbing. i think there are a lot of elementary subs, so you may have an issue there too.
