My puppy is moaning and squirming around in his sleep. He usually sleeps like a log.

Re: NWR- Can dogs have nightmares?
yeah, my dogs have definitely done that. Sometimes they would even wake up startled and howling. I wonder what the could possibly be dreaming to frighten them so much...

Re: NWR- Can dogs have nightmares?
My dog used to have nightmares and groan so loud it would keep me up at night and i would be angry. after a while it got even worse and then we found out he had cancer and had to be put to sleep. i felt so bad that he might have been in pain instead of just having nightmares and i was mad at him the whole time.
sorry i had to tell a sad story, I'm sure your dog is completely fine because dreaming really is normal and very common in dogs.

Re: NWR- Can dogs have nightmares?
yeah - my dog must usually be dreaming that she's running in a meadow or something b/c her paws are always going and going.
but twice she had a nightmare where she literally started screaming and woke up looking for me b/c she was so scared. sad.
so they definitely have nightmares.

YESSSSSS!!!!!! I used to dog sit my MOH's pup (pomeranian) and he used to growl and moan in his sleep and sometimes he would do it so loud that he actually wakes himself up and gets really scared!!!! Then, he would want to cuddle in bed with me!!!! Just like a baby! We used to joke around wondering what could he possibly have dreamt about?

Re: NWR- Can dogs have nightmares?
We've only had our puppy for 2 weeks and I haven't seen her do this yet, but it's perfectly normal for dogs to dream and be scared.
She does 'run' in her sleep sometimes tho, it's so cute!! And the snoring, little baby snores!!

My puppy snores too. He is a puggle so he snores and snorts like a pug, but howls like a beagle!

Yup, our pup snores and sometimes cries in his sleep. The vet said when this happens, not to wake them up from it because it could scare them even more.
