so we're supposed to go to the DMV tomorrow to have the title of my car changed from my father to mine. Anyone know if he needs to be there for us to do this?
Also is it better (tax wise) for him to sell it to us or to give it as a gift?

hi lori i did this in july when i gave my car to BIL i did NOT have to be there BUT i had to sign papers that he had to bring
you can get them on the DMV website

i gave it as a gift there are too many tax papers if you sell it - not papers at DMV, but papers when you do your taxes so i didnt
but def. download the forms on the dmv website

ive done this a few times. all your dad needs to do is fill out the back of the title and sign where it says seller's signature. now if he is giving it as a gift and you are resgistering it in your name you have to fill out a form (that you can download off line at the dmv website) that has all the seller and buyer's info and check off that it is a gift. your dad has to sign that as well.

No. My dad gave me his old car as a gift last year. No taxes.
