She emailed me the cross necklaces she likes, they're $325-425 Family members have dropped hints as to not forget to give a monetary gift as well..ummmm what would be appropriate??? I'm a first time god-mother and clueless!

Re: NWR: Christening gift
We were just godparents to FH’s niece on Sunday! We got a tiny little cross with diamonds on it at Zales. It was really cute and I think only $130. The ones they had in the display case were much more expensive, but we asked if they had any others and they brought out a bunch.

Ooh, that's a great idea! I didn't even think of Zales

well im a godparent to my neice i got her a necklace from LUNDSTROMS for 100 and it is a gold one with diamonds in it. You can go to lundstroms or whitehalls now they are having a closing sale and everything is 40-80% off. Im sure you can found something there.

I was a godmother last year to my little cousin, I bought her christening gown, blanket and accessories which cost well over $500, plus a cross which was over $700. Oh I also bought her an outfit just in case her mom wanted to change her out of the gown so she would more comfy.
I spent a fortune but I did not give extra money on top of that.

ummm no ... your the godparents so you choose the cross .. my FH was the godparent for his neice and he bought her a really pretty cross from tri county although it was a bit expensive so you might want to go to canal st or whitehall since its closing, he didnt give a monetary gift either I think, just the cross and they bought her the Christening dress too

My brother and I were the godparents for my niece and we also paid for the christening outfit that my sister picked out. We then bought a diamond necklace from fortunoff as the other half of the gift. It def can get expensive.

It def gets expensive.. do what you can. With my niece we paid for the outfit and gave money. Sooo many other ppl got her jewelry and I figure, I'll get her a cross when she can pick it out.. so yeah, I did money.

Re: NWR: Christening gift
In my family the GM buys the outfit and blanket and the GF buys the cross. That ends up being a very generous gift so we don't give an additional monetary amount. If you feel akward and expected than I would give a savings bond.

Re: NWR: Christening gift
FH was asked to be the god-father for our best friends new son, we got him his rosarys, a pendant, all 14K gold at the advent shop ran about $100 for both & chose to get him a stock as well & that ran about $100 also, plus someother doo-dads! In this economy no one can afford that price tag... check out Oneshare.com... hope this helps.

I'm sure you can find another one in the style she likes for less. And as for a monetary gift, why not a savings bond? That way, you pay half of what you give and you look like a big spender!
