I didn't start yet. I think I am going to do a lot online this year. FH's family decided to do a 'secret santa' this year instead of buying everyone a gift. So at Thanksgiving, we will each pick a name and you purchase a gift in the $100 range for that one person only. Its the first year they are doing that. So that will definitely cut down on some shopping!

I like this idea. That would save FH and I a lot of money.

Haha... I haven't even started Chanukah shopping, and the first night of Chanukah is Dec 1 this year!

Why is it so early this year. How does it work?

The Jewish holidays are based on a lunar calendar, with 12 lunar month that are 29-30 days long. The Jewish year winds up being about 11 days shorter than the regular year, which means that Jewish holidays move around a bit on the regular calendar (technically they're always the same day on the Jewish calendar). To re-sync with the regular calendar and keep the holidays in the right season, a leap month gets added every few years.

That is interesting.
