NWR: Closing on House

NWR: Closing on House

Hey girls-

For those of you that bought a house how frustrating/difficult was it to get a closing date?

Our contract says 'on or about June 1' - at first the lawyer swore it would be June 1 but that if it wasn't going to be we would know in plenty of time to give our landlord notice- well since then (feb when we closed) nobody will give us a straight answer! The most we have gotten is it definitely won't be June 1 but maybe June 15 or the 24th. I am so frustrated!

I am like do I start packing up the house or no? at this point we are just going to pay for the month of June so we don't end up homeless...

just wondering if this was a common thing or what not...TIA

Yeah, we experienced some of that as well. We had a 'target closing date' and for the weeks prior to it there was some back and forth on if we were going to make it.

It was annoying because FH and I wanted to put in for a day off. We did end up meeting the target date but it was like very last minute.

be patient

We're in the process of buying a co-op and our expected closing date is June 4th but we haven't heard anything yet! It also took a month just to get a commitiment letter from the mortgage company. This has been soooo frustrating!!!!

our closing date was a couple of days off then we expected. It was a little frustrating to move our days off from work, but we didn't have the added stress of ending a lease.

i would definitely stick it out for June. If you can. to be on the safe side. It will make the move a lot less stressful!!

Good luck!

it's rare you get a definitive answer. Mine was weeks after. It was ridiculous.

i work in the real estate business for the lawyers who 'keep putting off the closing dates' lol
trust us, its not our fault to get everyone in line to schedule a date.
there are so many parties involved to get together that almost everyone already has something planned on a specific date and may or may not want to move what they already have scheduled to accomodate your schedule.
banks now are also under a lot more pressure to make sure that all their 'i's' are dottend and their 't's' are crossed.
bear with us, we really do want you to close and try to meet your anticipated closing date as close to the contract date as possible. but it may not be the exact date listed.
