NWR: commuters out there....(re-post)

i know this is random but does anyone know how long it would take from let's say Glen Cove to New Rochelle every day during the rush hours??

DH and I trying to debate moving to New Rochelle in westchester or staying out on long island and driving everyday.....we are starting work at a hospital up there but it's only for a year

RENT there...

I was commuting from Mineola to Flushing during rush-hour traffic. What should have taken me 25 minutes would sometimes take me over an hour.

I now commute from Merrick to Flushing same time.... I've been in my car for almost two hours...

agreed!! - Glen Cove housing market is a wreck, you should be able to rent something really cheap to save extra cash. LI traffic stink and GC Road is always a nightmare. I wouldn't do the commute.

If you don't want to rent in GC, there's other small lovely villages in the area. If you are beach people, there's always Bayville and Oyster Bay.

thats going to be a LONG commute
I live in queens (forest hills) and commute to the bronx daily
My morning commute is not even 30 mins but going home takes 45-50 mins.

Glen cove is prob 25 mins from me and new rochelle is prob 20 mins further from where i work in the bronx,...so I would say close about an hour and 40 mins with traffic (possibly an hour 15 without traffic).

It's not too bad. You could take trhe throggs neck.

I So. Queens to White Plains for 3 years. It's opposite the traffic. On a good day it's 45 minutes. On a bad day, 90 minutes. Getting home takes longer.

Honey thats NOTHING!! haha

I drive from ronkonkoma to white plains, which is a few exits PAST new ro.

Once I am at exit 39 (glen cove) i pretty much consider myself close to work haha.

You would take the LIE ( service road) from 39-31, it is always clear. 31 is the throgs neck bridge.. after the bridge you get on 95. You may hit a bit of traffic getting onto 95, but thats really it. Then New ro is about 20 mins (with traffic) from the bridge.

I would say glen cove road would be the worst part of it. Youre looking at 35-45 mins, during rush hour from exit 39 to New Ro. Its really not that bad.

ETA: I guess it depends where you live exactly- but 39 on LIE to the New Ro exit off of 95 is def no more than 45 mins on a bad day. Ive been doing it for almost 4 years now.

Glen Cove Rd is a nightmare. I commute to one of my jobs from Oceanside to Glen Cove, which is north to south shore, a 20 mile drive. What should take me 30 minutes really takes over an hour at times. The worst part of the drive is Glen Cove Rd. I hate it so much that I don't even like to work there and avoid it at all costs. Sorry!!
