So I have an interview tomorrow in the Bronx. The job sounds awesome except for the Bronx part. I live on the South Shore near the Nassau Expressway and to be honest it is a pain getting everywhere. I was commuting about an hour and fifiteen minute to my previous job by car and it was hard and longer when traffic or weather conditions were bad. At least it wasn't a 11 a day in tolls. I hopstopped this place and it's 2 hours by train. I say this all to ask am I spoiled or is travelling over an hour and half one way for work too much? How much time do you spend commuting to work?
I think it depends on how awesome the job is/how desperate you are to work/how much money relative to what you rsituation is now is involved... 2 hours is a lot, but it's doable for the right job.
The longest I've had to commute is 1.5 hours by train and 1.5 hours by car.

Re: NWR: Commuting to work
on average about 45 mins (I have to take a bus to the train and then the train into the city - though sometimes I just walk to the train if it's not too hot out, in which case the commute is longer).
It has taken me sometimes well over an hour though to commute due to the bus running late and the trains not knowing what the eff they are doing that day - which seems to be happening more and more lately

Re: NWR: Commuting to work
im a bronx commuter too!!!! but i come from queens so its a bit closer. I opt to drive instead of train bc for me to train its a ton of transfers and would take 2 hrs as opposed to me driving where it will takes 45 mins with traffic (my morning commute is 30mins max but the afternoon is 45mins) Yes the tolls do get expensive but where i work i would have to take the metro north instead of the subway and that is almost as expensive as the tolls (not sure if you thought about that or if the job would be near the subway). I guess you have to consider how much you do like the job and if its worth it. good luck

I think it might be better to commute on the train. you can read and sleep or relax instead of fighting bad drivers in traffic

Re: NWR: Commuting to work
i used to commute to NYC and used to take me about an hour to get into penn. i now work on LI and it takes me about 35 min w/o traffic sometimes up to 45-50 min with traffic. I do prefer the commute now with the car because i'm not a slave to the train times lol... but i do miss the sleep i got going in on the train!

Re: NWR: Commuting to work
Well my commute used to be 10 minutes but we are moving so it has been bumped to about 30-35 minutes depending on traffic. I work part time though and only make the trip 4 days a week. I will be working out of my home the rest of the time.

I think 2 hours each way and you're basically sabotaging your personal life. Thats A REALLY LONG COMMUTE - think about it...4 hours a day of commuting?. I know people that commute that long and they're miserable. And then you have less time spend with husband/family, and if kids come along you will have less time to spend with them...and then if its raining or snowing or horrendous traffic you will be the most miserable person on the planet. I say, NO WAY! or if its a really amazing opportunity then you can consider moving. I would die if I commuted that long. I think an hour is too much.....but 2 hours EACH WAY!?
