NWR: Corned beef and cabbage vs Friday in Lent!!

I think we are going to have our corn beef tomorrow.

FH just said he is giving up wedding planning for lent!

we are not catholic to bon appetite with corned beef for us!!

The pope grants special dispensation to eat corned beef on the feast of ST Patrick if it happens to fall on a Friday. I never heard about the Saturday thing. Meat is a luxury during lent so thats why we don't eat it on Fridays. It used to be for the full 40 days but they knocked it down to Ash Wed and Fridays. Don't stress over it, youw on't go to hell.

Actually the reason for not eating meat on Fridays during Lent is suppose to be a sacrifice Catholics make to signify the death of Jesus on the cross on Good Friday. It dosen't have to do with meat being a luxury item.

Traditionally Catholics would never eat meat on Fridays year round in honor of Good Friday, though few people follow this tradition today. Back when this year round meat abstinence on Fridays was observed, any time a Catholic holiday fell on a Friday, Catholics were granted dispensation so that they could celebrate. There is no Saturday rule.
