NWR - Corrective Eye Surgery

So I went in today to get corrective eye surgery because my astigmatism makes me look blind whereas my eyes shouldn't even be that bad (like a 1.75 prespection). And I was wondering...

has anyone done this before?

EDIT: Went in today for a consultation!!!! Not the surgery..

No, but my boss has, and his wife just did it in February. They love it, and I want to get it done as well! If you want FM me for their opthamologist's name.

Which one did that get? I have an appointment in July and they said the recovery time will be a very days or up to a week.. so I'm just wondering how accurate that is. Sometimes doctors say you'll be good in 2 days and then it takes a week or so..

I think it took her 3 days to recover. I would guesstimate that I would be recovering for about a week, just to get used to bright lights and night and adjusting to my new vision.

Look up Dr. Donnenfeld.

I had it done when I was 24 and I am back to wearing contacts. I actually just went to the eye doc today and he said it seems like I never even had it done :(((( I have to say it was the best 4 years of my life not having to wear contacts.

My friend got it done and she said that whenever she take a shower it kind of hurts a bit. She also said that during recovery it hurt alot to bend over and that it was painful. But she recommends it.

A friend from work got it done two years ago and now 2 years later she has to wear glasses again. So she spent a lot of money to have two years glasses free.

my mom worked for opthamologists for years, she said that blue eyed people have a higher percentage of getting permenant glare issues because their eyes have less pigment than brown so during surgery it affects it differently from the laser.

that's all i needed to hear since i have blue eyes.
in the day of cuter glasses, i'm ok being blind wearing contacts and glasses, but that's just me . i can't even let the dr put eye drops in much less a laser lol

My brother just had PRK like 3 weeks ago... it hurt him alot for like 4 to 5 days. ORK is more intense then Lasik

My MOH just had Lasik like 4 weeks ago and she was in no pain.

PRK - my brother got a law enforacement discount costed him 2100

Lasik - My MOH paid 4000.

Good Luck

I just got it done in April and it was the best thing I ever did.

If you are thinking about it please go to a doctor who is very experienced. Do not sacrifice quality for price! I went to Kelly laser center in long island.

It took 1 day for me to recover and I have no problem with dryness or anything. As long as you follow the directions given to you, you will be fine.

.... I have blue eyes! Now I'm a little worried. I have really bad astigmatism (can't read a clock or watch tv) even though my eyes are only about a 1.75 prescription, so I thought it would be good.. but it might not be worth it..

I really wanted to see again..

Eek! I have blue eyes too, so that scares me! I know about four people in my family, including my dad, who got Lasik and it worked for them (though my dad needed to go twice), but they all have brown eyes. I've always been hesitant about Lasik because of the chance of something going wrong, and because I sometimes like wearing glasses...so it's unlikely that Lasik is in the future for me.

Have you seen a regular eye dr? Not one that can do the surgery?

I have eye issues (hereditary in itself) so im a bit different...BUT my eye dr told me absolutley not to get it done since my eye sight is so bad it wont work.

i know im diff cause of the eye situations..but id def go to a reg dr who has your interest in mind..like mara said, some people do wind up wearing glasses after all that money.

I HTH and i really hope you could do it..i wish i could too :(

Re: NWR - Corrective Eye Surgery

I haven't seen a regular eye doctor... I don't like them. They always tell me my prescription changes even if I can see perfectly fine. So, I haven't gone in a few years and when I went in for the appointment, the doctor said my prescription is actually too strong.

I really wanted to get it done.. it's PRK, which is different from Lasik and they have forms where they say it's new and they are unsure of long term damage and everything.. which didn't bother me until my dad was all angry when talking to me about it, saying I shouldn't get it done.

I have a little over a month to decide.. but with the blue eyes and the scary forms... plus an angry father, I'm a little unsure at this point..

I really want to get it done though!

FH was joking that he's unsure of the surgery because he's not sure if I'll still want to marry him once I have perfect vision

I had PRK....it hurt to go in the daylight at first, it hurt when my eyes dilated. I now have really bad dry eyes and they are still blurry sometimes.
