NWR: Credit Cards

FH and I are planning to open a credit card to earn points for travel and such. We don't live together yet and don't share any expenses, except wedding related. Do you have joint credit cards with your FH? How did you open them? I feel clueless at this point if we have to go to a bank or if we can do it online. Any particular cards you recommend?

We have separate credit cards.. If you are a fan of Marriott I recommend checking out their card. FH signed up and got 50k for signing up, then referred me. I signed up and got 70k in points for signing up. You can combine points when going on a vacation. We also did our hotel block for wedding at a Marriott and will get the points for any of our guests who use the room block. We have enough points at this time to do about 4-5 nights somewhere at a standard Marriott (not the high end ones like Ritz or JW) and hope by the time the wedding is over we have enough for a full week and will use that for our honeymoon :)

When you apply for a credit card online there is an option to add someone onto your account. They would receive their own CC with their name on it and the account number is the same. Capital One Venture Rewards credit card seems to be great ( don't have it but after quickly googling the perks don't seem bad)!! It does have an annual fee after the first year but you accumulate points to use on flights, hotels, etc. Depending on where you are going on your honeymoon the southwest CC is great and you build up points for the flight! Hope this helps! Good luck! :)

We have a capital One Quicksilver card and it is my FH but I am an authorized card holder, I can use the card and it also reflects on my credit report.

We don't have a joint credit card, but we use Citi ThankYou cards and love them. Points can be used on so much including travel and because we bank at Citi, we get even more points.

I've got horrendous credit, FH has good credit, so no joint credit card for us. It kind of sucks sometimes, but I'm not sure if I will want to have a credit card every again.

FH does have airline points from when he traveled to Asia a couple years ago. If you find a decent card with airline points, let me know!

We have tons of rewards credit cards, lol. Chase Sapphire is a good one. They give you the option for cash back as a reward, and transfer it to your bank account. Most other cards require the cash back option to be applied to the credit card. If you're interested in travel, JetBlue has their AmEx rewards card, that's a good one too.

We have an amex and a visa together. I put him on my Visa about 3 years ago 1. to help him build credit and 2. to establish proof that we are in a relationship so he could be on my company health insurance

FH and I opened up a Delta Amex card and put all joint expenses (including wedding) on the card. I already have a lot of Delta Skymiles but this credit card is boosting my balance. At this point, we have enough Delta skymiles to fly on our honeymoon in business class. I'd also recommend the SPG Amex card if you'd like to accumulate points.

We don't have any joint credit cards right now but I will probably add him to my Bank of America Cash Rewards card (you get bonus cash back for spending a certain amount plus an extra % when you deposit the cash back into your Bank of America account).

I also have a Chase Freedom which has cash back and rewards and a VISA Southwest Card which I love I use the points to see my brother in Florida (this is the only card I have that has an annual fee). FH has a MasterCard Gold Card I believe which has rewards and an annual fee.

The only joint account we have is a savings account for the wedding.
