Someone told me that when you get married and change your name, your old credit report kind of gets wiped away, because now you have a new name? Is this true? What if your credit is better than you FH?

Re: nwr -- credit reports and changing your last name
don't change your name?
I'm not sure. this is intersting. A coworker keeps a credit card in her maiden name. Maybe that's why. I have also heard that you should keep a card with you as the primary, and one with him as the primary so you have separate credit histories, in case ( God forbid) anything happens to on of you.

No, not true. I recently got a copy of my credit report and everything is on there including everything from before I changed my name.

Yep! You should keep things just in your name too (married name). I have come across woman in my business that have no credit cause when they were married everything was in their husbands name. THis takes many years of course, but I know i will have credit cards just in my own married name.

I'm not sure if your credit report gets wiped away--isn't it listed by your social security number?

Your credit report does not get wiped away. Your Social Security number never changes, so that is not possible.
Yes, we both have one CC each that is independant of the other and we use that to buy gifts for each other so that we won't know what the other spent.

YEP! But if you don't have revolving accounts, and nothing in your name, things drop off after 5-10yrs..Depending on what it is...It takes alot of time..
