NWR: Day Trip Rec's

I want to take my FH out for a day or two trip. We've been in 'save money' mode for such a long time that I think its starting to get to us since we don't go out (not that we saved as much as we needed!! )

Does anyone have rec's on where to go for cheap? We're up for anything. Thanks!

When the weather gets warmer, you could go to the North Fork to some of the wineries. They also have farm stands with berry picking, etc. My favorite place to stop when we do a day trip out there is the Out East Family Fun Center. It's in Riverhead, just past Tanger. They have an inflatable water slide, water balloon fights, batting cages, beach volleyball and mini golf. Their prices are great and it's so much fun!

Mystic, CT is nice and there are a lot of fun things to do there. They have a great aquarium!

New Paltz/Hudson Valley
My sister has a store in NP, and it's a really really cute town - lots of little shops, cute restaurants, and it's gorgeous up there.

This weekend FH and I are going to Pennsylvania. We'll be in the Reading area. There is an outlet mall in Reading and farmers/flea market in Kutztown. Pottsville is also nearby and has the Yungling beer factory. Lancaster is a little further south (Amish area).

I'm not sure where you live...but you can always go out to the hamptons if you live in nassau and want a change of a scenery. Or spend the day/night in NYC if you're both from LI.

If you're looking for a one day trip, I suggest the vineyards on Long Island. That's if you like wine. Bring some cheese and crackers and enjoy wine with music on the grass. FH and I do that every summer. He has a convertible.

i second a trip to PA! before FH and I moved to PA, we used to take weekend trips to Hershey and drive over to the Yuengling factory. If you're on a budget you might try one of the hotels around Hershey besides the Hershey Lodge or Hershey Hotel. I think the Holiday Inn in Grantville is only a few miles away and much cheaper. They have an indoor and outdoor pool and an awesome bar with live music almost every night. I'd say one full day in Hershey Park, a night out in the area and a tour of the Yuengling factory the next day is a pretty good little getaway. Also at Hershey, if you buy your ticket for the next day a couple of hours before the park closes, you get to go in for free as a 'preview' of the park. Two hours before the park closes is enough time to get on all the major coasters and rides. Oh, the hotel isn't far from Harrisburg and there's some fun stuff to do there. There's a nice Riverboat Ride that costs only a few bucks per person. And the city itself is small but nice! have fun!

Do you want to do something with nature? You could always go to a national park. Bear Mountain up in Orange County is a decent national park. Lots of trails and I think a mini zoo. There is also a pool and a restaurant.
