I don't have anyone there, but I do have two great ones - one in bklyn and the city.....(I have had skin cancer twice-melanoma- and had to go for surgery both times...they are the only ones I would trust so they come highly recommended from me!!)

Me too! I had melanoma too and had stuff removed like 15 times! I have no scars and I am really happy with my Doc as well. I am glad stuff worked out for you!

Re: NWR : dermotologist
ive had about 10 biopsies for melanoma but they were all negative - my mom had melanoma and b/c all my beauty marks are atypical moles i have to be really careful....im afraid because i abused the sun as a teenager and loved tanning and because of my moles and family history ill probably get it for some reason i get keloid scars from my biopsies - did that happen to you girls? could it be that my dermatologist has a bad technique when doing the biopsy?

Re: NWR : dermotologist
I don't think they know why some people get keloids. I think it may just be how your skin heals differently from others. I didn't get keloids but my spots were basal cells so I also had to have MOH's surgery on the sight which is kinda like plastic surgery so that is a big reason I didn't get the keloids.

I don't know. I mean, I am fair and scar easily but my doctor is so good that he leaves no scars. It could be the technique your Doctor uses. Maybe for another biopsy you can try a different doctor?

I used to go to one in Bethpage -- she was pretty easy to get an appointment with. FH has one in Bay shore who is REALLY good, but it takes forever to get an appointment with him.

I think it depends on how you heal and where it is removed from....I think all biopsy's are basically the same...but look into it....is a keliod scar when its raised?? If so, it def it the way your skin heals....cause the three that I have had that were neg - one healed like that ...the other two were flat...it depends on where they remove it from. You can also ask the derm to inject it with cortozone...it flattens them out for some reason....(he did that with the scar I got from my first surgery and it is flatter than ever)

so funny you mentioned the cortizone! ive had that done and it helped a little - i have two that are really raised and the others arent so bad....one is on my rib cage under my boob - thats the worst one - i had it biopsied and before the biospy site healed the pathology people told the derm to go deeper to make sure they got everything - it wasnt cancerous but i guess it was abnormal....the other bad scar is on my inner thigh....the other ones healed flatter...im going to be covered in them pretty soon!
