NWR: Did anyone see that story about...

the interracial couple in smithtown who were harrassed bc of their interracial marriage and received hate mail etc? I am OUTRAGED!!!

I cant believe i just bought a home in a town like that. Im sickened!!!!

I read it on another board here on LIW and as much as it is horrible, it is all too common. We are moving in a week to a place where I saw swastikas spray-painted on the side of a public business right in New Hyde Park. I bet these cowards wouldn't have the CHUTZPAH to do it on my front lawn! I thought we were a civilized nation. Apparently not.

the children of this couple were patients at the doctors office i work for.

the mother brought the whole gaggle of them in with her. there were 8 i think? she was a lovely person and the most patient mother i have ever seen. it is terrible what happened to them. she was really distraught over it, quite panicked really. i would be too, especially with so many young kids. she had a newborn for god sakes.

call me naive, but i absolutely cannot understand how someone could be so cruel and heartless. let alone cowardly. i guess i am lucky to live amongst so many diverse, accepting people.

OMG! that is crazy! in this day and age... especially in such a diverse state like NY. Unbelievable!

As someone who grew up in Smithtown, I don't think it is good to generalize a whole town based on the horrible activity of some of its residents. Smithtown is really a good town

I think it is sad that in this day in age there is still so much close-mindedness and hatred - it just makes me wonder what is wrong with people.

I live in Smithtown, and hate to say it but this kind of thing happens EVERYWHERE.

There is no place in this entire world that is immune to ignorance and hatred unfortunately, and we see examples of it every day. These kind of idiotic and cowardly acts know no location.

I really thought society would be used to interracial couples by now, I mean it's 2005 for goodness sake!!! Esp here on LI!!
