So the district manager tells us all to come in for a meeting with her today. No big deal, right? Wrong. Basically the meeting was to tell us that the company is restructuring and the business no longer warrants 4 managers and that person X has been severed from the business. She walked her out and we didn't even get to talk to her. They did this in 6 stores in our district. There is so much wastefulness in the company I can't stand it. They send us signs, screw up the fonts and tell us to throw them out etc. The amount of times they waste stuff could have payed her salary. This woman has an 8 month old baby and a mortgage to pay. I am afraid my company is going bankrupt. I might have to pull this if I mention the companys name so I won't but I am disgusted...

Thanks, the thing that ***** about is that we are so close with each other - sort of like family. I hate to sound dramatic but it was such a somber mood at work today - it was almost like losing a loved one, she took down the pics of her daughter and everything - its just gonna be so weird with out her...

I'm sooooooooo sorry to hear this. I used to work in the corporate office of Steve & Barry's, so I know EXACTLY what you're going through. I was really close with a lot of my coworkers there and it was a terrible place to be once they started the layoffs.
My recommendation to you.....start looking elsewhere. At Steve & Barry's, they told us they were only downsizing with the first set of layoffs. That was December of 2007. Then they filed bankruptcy in July 2008. Now they're completely gone as of this past January, and I have A LOT of friends out of work.

I know how you feel. When you work retail you spend more time with your co-workers than anyone in your fam!
omg i understand how you feel so sorry to hear bout this. i work for walmart and i am very thankful i have a job. it was 1 of the only buisnesses to make a profit this past year. but yes you grow such a strong bond with people its soo sad to see them go. im sorry bout all this

Stacey...im sorry to hear about that! I tell ya....I cant stand working in the corporate world anymore. We leave for work -not knowing if we'll have jobs by the end of the day! The stress is NON-STOp...and it's just an awful environment. I compeltely understand where you're coming from. Hang in there...and hope that things get better as the year progresses.
