NWR DJ AM found dead: report

DJ AM, whose real name was Adam Goldstein, has been found dead in his apartment in New York, according to entertainment website TMZ.

The popular website reported police sources as saying the 36-year-old was found in his apartment around 5:20 pm on Friday (local time).

They say there was drug paraphernalia at the scene.

The police were reportedly notified after friends, who had not heard from Goldstein for several days, went to his apartment but could not get a response after knocking on his door.

TMZ first reported the death of pop singer Michael Jackson in June.

DJ AM, the former boyfriend of Nicole Richie, was originally a member of the band Crazy Town - known for their hit song Butterfly.

He has since performed as a DJ for a host of celebrities and featured on albums for Madonna, Papa Roach and Will Smith.

In September 2008 Goldstein was seriously injured in a plane crash with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker.

The crash killed two crew members and two other passenger

I just heard that too. Can I sound like a real jerk though and say I don't think it's so sad and tragic that all these celebrities keep dying of drug overdoses? That's what drugs do people - they kill you! Another death that could have very easily been avoided!

I was thinking that too - esp since he almost died once already! You would think that would knock some sense in to people.

I agree...and it is all prescription drugs that is killing them..maybe some doctors should wake up and stop prescribing these things...it seems like everyone is on something...there is a pill for everything now a days (i sound old...I'll stop..)

I know he had a hard life. But Michale Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith, Heath Ledger, Joh Belushi, and so many more.......

Its so easy for them to get drugs of ANY kind and kill themselves by accident.

Im so grateful for what I have and would not trade their millions for the happiness I have.

OK well see here is where I play devils advocate. I dont know much about him, but maybe his excess drug use could be contributed to his plane accident. The mental trauma plus his injuries and being in constant pain may have driven him to taking the lethal dose of drugs.

OK well see here is where I play devils advocate. I dont know much about him, but maybe his excess drug use could be contributed to his plane accident. The mental trauma plus his injuries and being in constant pain may have driven him to taking the lethal dose of drugs.

TMZ is claiming he was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder after the crash but I don't think any of us will ever truly know what was going on in his head.. At first I was upset when I saw this because I feel like a lot of people don't get second chances like he did (surviving the plane crash) and he just p issed it away but now I don't really know what to think. My heart and my prayers do go out to his family and friends though!

That's what some reports are saying...

I also want to mention here that these celebs are under intense pressure.

How many times do some of you unwind from a bad day by drinking wine???? Think of that amount of pressure times 100. Not the best way to go about forgetting problems and everyday pressure but just a thought.

Such a tragedy. Even more so because he had his brush with death in that plane crash.

I absolutely agree. I went to an orthopedist a little over a month ago for my knee and it was literally like walking into an ice cream store and asking for your favorite flavor. He would have given me anything I asked for. It's crazy. (and by the way I did not leave with a prescription of any kind that day)

I don't want people to get confused over what I'm saying - anyone's death is sad but people need to learn from this. If you found out you had cancer, you wouldn't just LET that cancer kill you. I understand that drug addiction is not exactly the same as that but if you know you have a drug problem, you should seek help.

I'm sure post traumatic stress disorder had something to do with it - who knows, maybe he was even trying to die. You hear about horrible accidents where only a few people survive and those people live with the 'why me? why did I live and they died' burden on their shoulders.

Bottom line is though, this death could and should have been avoided.

Oh I totally agree with you when it comes to prescription drugs and drugs are any easy way out of a crappy situation and its not the right way out. Like I said before, i dont really know him all that well and by no means know anything about his drug use, but its just tragic that apparently he had to use the drugs as a way out. No the right answer and yes it could have been avoided.

Dont even get me started on my views on doctors and their writing scripts for prescription drugs that are totally not necessary.
