Mainly directed at those who are somewhat settled in their careers at this point, not interning, part time job while in school etc...
I am a manager at a womens clothing store where I have been for 8 years and this may sound strange but - I actually like my job. I work with really great people whom I've known for years and its kind of like my second family. The company treats us well, we get good benefits. I often hear stories from managers who work for other companies where every Christmas season they work 6 days a week, or have to work open - close shifts etc. In my entire 8 years working this company I have had to do this once - and was cause someone quit that day without giving any notice. Don't get me wrong there are downsides like having to work on weekends, holidays etc... but this question today and the state of the economy really had me feeling thankful for what I do have...
sorry so long oops!

Re: NWR: Do you like your job?
Yes, I definitely like my job. Some days I like it more than others, but overall, it's a cool place to work.
I work as a Human Resources Assistant in a major theatre company. We handle many of the Broadway shows, as well as many off-Broadway shows and some of the regional theatres in the northeast. Many of the people I work with - myself included - have done some kind of artistic work in the past/still does that kind of stuff on the side. So basically, I work in a place where people thrive on their creativity even in an office environment.
Some downsides of working there...well, when a show closes (which happens too often, IMO), that means that not only are the actors and musicians out of work, but so are the box office staff, the ushers, the maintenence folks...that's a huge bummer, but something that I have to deal with daily since I work in H.R.
However - last night was the Tony Awards and many of the awards went to shows that my company handles the ticket sales for and/or is on their bill as a producer of the show. So right now, things are looking pretty good (knocks on wood).

I do. I like the people I work with in my office, they're all really great. My boss is awesome, and I couldn't ask for better. He took me to Friendly's for lunch today because we were in the field during lunchtime. It was rather funny watching my boss eat an ice cream sundae for dessert after his lunch and smiling like a 5 year old
And I love that I'm not stuck in an office all day long and everything's very flexible. The pay is terrible, and the health insurance is crap, but I get tons of holidays, comp time, flex time, vacation days, and sick days. I can also basically make my own schedule. Oh and the office is only 10 minutes from my house
The downside however, is that my job is very depressing. I work with children with mental illnesses in foster care. It's very heart wrenching to hear when a parent wants to surrender their rights because they 'are just done.' But when you see the few kids succeed in the program and get on their own two feet......that's when it's all worth it.
ETA: the biggest downside of my job would have to be that I'm on call 24 hours. If there's an with one of my clients at 5am on a Sunday, I get the phone call.

I have so much respect for you. Thank you for doing what you do! My cousin (and best friend) is also in foster care and its heart wrenching to hear her stories, but its so necessary.
I hate my job this week. I go through phases. I work at a large advertising agency, and I like the work overall, but the hours can get insane when there's a deadline loomng and our creative staff doesn't have ANYTHING. I am just sitting here in the office, praying our creative director will have something to show me tonight for our meeting with our client tomorrow.

I like what I do but I hate that I am always 'in trouble' where other people in the office can do whatever they want. I just hate how I am treated and the hypocracy. I know times are tough but a little space to breath would be great since you claim I am the best at my job.

I work full time even though you see my post about my terrible internship... I actually have a career, and am just getting my Masters to further my career... (Just to clarify)
I am a medicaid service coordinator for adults and kids with developmental disabilities in Garden City. Been there 3 years. I love my job!! It is fabulous. My bosses are wodnerful and my clients are typically great. We all have crappy days, but I adore my job.

I love my job. I'm a school psychologist working with middle school students. Each day brings its own challenges but I feel like I can actually make an impact. It's never easy working through the crises (suicidal ideation, suspected abuse, drug involvement), but it's a rewarding and fulfilling job. I also work with a wonderful faculty so I consider myself very lucky!

As much as I complain about my job, I do enjoy it. I love what I do, which is hard to find someone who loves their career, and I got really lucky to get a job like I did right out of school. The lab I work in is like the country club of the laboratory world. I have seen/heard some pretty shytie labs/things that are done to the employee's and I am thankful that I get to work in a lab that is clean, well maintained, safe and somewhat of a 'everybody working for the same thing' mentality.

Re: NWR: Do you like your job?
I love my job... sometimes. I'm an RN, so it totally depends on the day- how many patients I have, who I'm working with that night. I hate going to work, but once I get there it's all good. Being on an oncology unit it sad sometimes, but I like making people happy when they need it most. At the end of the night I just have to remember to leave my work at work, an don't take it home with me!
