Fh and I get tested for EVERYTHING every 6mnths when we go to the doc. SInce they are taking blood anyway to run regular blood tests they might as well run tests for everythig right?! (STD's) Well lots of people think we are nuts for doing this since for the past 5 years we have only been with eachother. For us.. we dont do it as a lack of trust issue.. we do it to keep our a$$es covered and safe. Pleople dont realize that u can get deseases just by everyday life.. getting ur nails done, a pedicure, and ever a hair cut.
Does anyon else get tested on a regular basis?

I do too, and I was just joking with my friends about how even though I do this every year, and have only been with FH for the last 3 years it's still stressful waiting for the test results even though there's no reason to worry!

I see my gyno every 6 months and get a full STD (not save the dates ) panel run. I've been doing it for years. Why stop now? Especially bc so many STD's are dormant/undetected for years. I could have contracted (or FH) something like HPV or HIV (GOD FORBID) years ago and it might not have come up in earlier tests.
Truth be told I get a case of the bubble guts for about a week while I wait for the results... again you never know

My FH gets tested every couple of months. He does it on his own because he's an NYC police officer and he has to deal with a lot of dead bodies and unfortunatley a lot of them have AIDS as well.

I get an HIV test every time I get a physical or go to my gyn. I made FH get lots of STD test when we first started dating, right before we started having sex, when we decided to (periodically) not use condoms, etc. I worked in a hospital for 2 years on a floor that sometimes had HIV+ patients. STDs are easy to catch from sexual contact but that's about it. I'm not worried about getting tested and retested all the time but when I go to the gyno I tell them to test for everything, 8.5 years later and we're still all clear.

We both do every year. My family's health is VERY important to me so I stressed this to FH. Now, we both get all of our testing done together.

I', not a fanatic about getting tested, but being that I have 2 children the HIV test is mandatory when pregnant. Darren however has not been tested for anything to my knowledge. So maybe it's something I should sk him to do. Then again I'm confident in his honesty about his past sexual experiences, so...

Well, I get my normal tests at the Gyno (Pap smear, etc) reguarly. I don't think you are nuts for doing that... like you said, people don't realize that they can get diseases from a lot of everyday things and not just sex. Also, people don't realize that things they do with their partner (IE, oral sex with a cold sore) could lead to a more serious STD on the private parts. And moreso, a lot of people don't realize that many STD's can be dormant for many years before, if ever, surfacing. I know that HPV can surface or it can stay hidden for years and people go on living life without knowing that they have the disease (which is the leading cause of Cervical Cancer). HPV can also pop up once and go away on it's own and either never come back or pop up again whenever it wants... So all in all, you can never be too safe! I think you and FH are doing the right thing just to be careful.

I never even thought to- just the regular pap @ my gyno.. maybe I should.. I have been tested before.. FI and I have been together for 5 years.. the dormant virus thing is a scary thought! thanks for giving us the heads up
