and they don't know what they want to do with their life job wise? I am in a dead end job (which I have complained about on here in the past). They are moving 1/2 my building to Atlanta this year, and the rest of up probably some time soon. I have been looking all over for jobs and I just don't know what I want to do. Do I want to go back to school? Do I need to go back to school? Can I find a job that I actually like? Blah blah blah!!!! In some ways I feel like such a loser b/c my parents spent a lot of money to send me through 4 years of school and I am not only not doing what I went to school for, but I am not happy in my current job and wonder if I can ever find a job doing something I like. The tricky thing is I have a million and one things I would like to do and am interested in but just can't decide on one. Will I ever figure out what to do with my life? I am only 25, but most people have this figured out by now. Thanks for listening....just needed to vent!!!!!!

Re: NWR: Does anyone else feel lost.....
honestly buy or borrow a copy of a book called quater-life crisis - lots of people feel that way in their 20s there are too many choices -too many things you need to do before you can settle down - each person's is slightly different
sometimes it is easier to figure out what you don't want to do then what you really want to do - so look at jobs that don't work out as learning experiences and try something new

Sooo not true, the most intersting people I know haven't figured out what they want to do. Don't beat yourself up. You are VERY young. This is coming from someone that has 7 years on you. I didn't like the job I had at 25 either. You will figure it out as you go along trust me. Things have a way of falling into place.
Good luck and chin up!

Re: NWR: Does anyone else feel lost.....
You took the words right out of my mouth, it's like you're posting what I've been feeling since I graduated college!!
So let me start off by saying that you're NOT a loser!! I'm also 25, we've got our whole lives ahead of us. Yes, some people already have everything figured out for them but a lot of people, probably the majority, aren't settled in their careers by this age. Relax!!!
I also went to school for 4 years, even got my Master's online, and yet am still not in my field and am instead in a job where there's no future for me. Right now I'm focusing on my personal life (i.e. getting married), after that I'm going to redirect my energies on my profession and try to get my career going.
Don't worry, you're def not alone!!

I was JUST THINKING the same thing!!!!!
27 and have a few ideas, but I don't want to make a mistake and then fall on my face! Do you feel like sometimes you just don't want to do anything at all?

Re: NWR: Does anyone else feel lost.....
I am with you 100%. I graduated last January with a Masters in School Counseling and I can not get a job in my field. I worked for a non-proft agency as a counselor and I left this past January because I morally objected to what I was doing. Needless to say I am now a substitute teacher who feels as though things are very grim in the field that I have my degree in and so now I am stuck. I would say do not get down on yourself, better times are coming. Maybe talk to some people who went to school for the same thing that you did and see what other avenues in the field that you can pursue.

Re: NWR: Does anyone else feel lost.....
i'm 26 and in the same situation. Everyday i complain about my job and I don't know what to do about it because i don't know what to do with my life. I have no idea what i want to do when i grow up. It *****! Most of my friends are in the same situation. Only my lawyer friend and teacher LOVE their jobs and are happy with what they do. My new excuse is i have to wait til AFTER the wedding to look for a new job. I'm sure i'll come up with some other excuse after the wedding. Its so frustrating and depressing at times...and it doesn't help that the cost of living in new york is out of control!!!!! if i start a new job i'll probably have to take a pay cut....and start over...and who wants to do that...WHO CA AFFORD TO DO THAT?!?!?!? ahhhhhhhhh! You ar enot alone!

Re: NWR: Does anyone else feel lost.....
I almost started crying when I read this thread, I'm so glad (bad choice of words, I guess!) that I'm not the only one! Don't worry, I'm 28 and still haven't figured out what to do with my life. I'm also in a dead end job and had taken a long hiatus from college in order to help out the family business. Now I'm back in school, with about 2 years to go before I get my bachelors degree (of course I'm so indecisive about what I want to major in) stuck in these classes with a bunch of 18 year old KIDS feeling like an old fart! So no, you're definitely not alone!

OK, not even funny. I am so unhappy at work these days that just reading these posts is making my eyes fill w/tears. I don't hate what I do, I just hate the conditions sometimes. I also don't like not having autonomy. Whatever you do ...don't settle. Find s/t that will truly make you happy.

Re: NWR: Does anyone else feel lost.....
i am the same way. i feel there is so much more i want to do career wise. i have gone back to school and even got my MA, but it isnt exactly what i wanted to do. i am teaching ESL and it is rewarding, but i think i would rather be teaching german. i also work part time at a restaurant, and i really really hate that job. but the money is really good.
i am going to wait until after the wedding and after i move to go and work on that. i dont think it will take much, as i already have a teaching degree, but i have to find out what certifications i need exactly in australia. i also want to get my phd, as well. there is just so much that i want to do.
i think it is a normal thing and a lot of 20 somethings feel that way.

Re: NWR: Does anyone else feel lost.....
Girl you are not going to figure it out by 25. We are still to young to know what will really make us happy. That's why a lot of people in their 20's and 30's job hop. They don't know what to do. You're not alone.
