How many times do you feed & give water to your dog & how many times does he go to the bathroom.
My brother just adopted a 2 yr old cocker spaniel & golden retriever mix who is housebroken. His foster mom said he would go at 6 am and then when she got home at 6pm. and that she would feed him 2 x and not a lot bec she was working.
so ye well the 2nd day my brother took him out at 6 am, the dog ate n drank when he came back around 645 am then did number 1 in the house at like 11 am. Is that normal?? lol my brother is scared now so he takes him out like 4-5 times a day 6am, 11am 5pm and 1030 pm when he gets home from work.

Re: NWR: Dog Owners
the dog may just be scared about being in a new place, my dog is 3 the first day we moved into a new place we left him alone for a little bit and he pooped in the living room! but it has not happened again since...its like 3 weeks later, and i doubt it ever will, we take our dog out 3 times a day usually but i know he would be fine with 2 unless your constantly feeding and giving them water. My dog also is fed 2x a day and typically drinks 2 bowls of water. The dog may continue to do this for a while until he gets used to your brother and the schedule, if anything your brother should cut down on these times to atleast 3 times a day so the dog learns to hold it in better.

My dog does number 2, 3 times a day. We got him at 2 months and now he is almost 5 months so its been a challenge. He only started going outside luke 3 weeks ago. But he refuses to pee out. He holds it til he comes home and goes ob a pee pee pad

I think the dog is just nervous. You have to set the ground rules in his new house. If you have to, get a crate and re-train him. That's how we trained our big dog. The little one trained on weewee pads and then went outside.
Can't really go by the dogs I have now. My little one goes #2 like 4x day! He's a big pooper lol
We feed the little one once 1x a day - 1 CUP and he grazes most of the day of it. The Rottie we feed 2x a day - 2 cups at a time and believe it or not, she grazes too.
They go out A LOT, that's only because there is always someone home with them. BUT for when we are not home, we have left them 10 hours with food and water down and they hold it.

Re: NWR: Dog Owners
Our goldendoodle is a little over a year and we walk him 3x a day. Morning, late afternoon, & night time.
We give him 2 scoops of food in his food bowl and he just goes at it whenever he is hungry (he's not an over-eater & doesn't gorge himself, so we trust him). As for water, we try to always make sure he's got water in his bowl, especially after a walk (he get's dehydrated because he's fluffy and we live in FL).
I would 1,00000% recommend crate-training. We spend a ton of $$$$ on a dog trainer, and while it was brutal on our wallets in the beginning, it has proven itself a great investment!
Bentley is about 1 year and 3 months and we still have him sleep in his crate. Crate training will teach him that his crate is not 'punishment', but rather, his own little 'space'.
HTH!

Re: NWR: Dog Owners
he has been doing well for the past few days no accidents yet and he doesnt need a crate because he sleeps pretty calmly on the floor and is housebroken so thats not an issue. we just wanted to make sure we are taking him out enough times. We are going to limit it to 3 times and see how that works. Thanks girls!

Re: NWR: Dog Owners
I take my 2 doggies out at 7am, then they come inside and eat, once they eat they go to their crates 'til we come back home which is around 4pm, I take both out, they won't eat again 'til 7pm, and they go to bed (their crates) 'til 10ishpm
it might work if he goes to the bathroom before he eats in the morning

Re: NWR: Dog Owners
When he was a tiny puppy, we took him out about 5x a day, but since he's gotten to be 1 yr, we've kept it steady at 3x a day. HTH and good luck!

ITA! when the little rugrats feel they wanna take a nap or they just wanna lay down, they actually go to their crates by themselves, this is why we feel there's no need to close their little

we leave food and water out all day for our cockapoo. he doesn't eat unless we're home anyway.
we walk him about 5 times a day just b/c he likes to be outside and it's good exercise. he also lets us know if he has to go to the bathroom by hitting his leash.

Re: NWR: Dog Owners
ahhh thats really good we are trying to figure him out still. sometimes he goes to the front door and looks at leash that hangs next to the door lol and then just lays down by the door. but its hard to know if he is being protective or needs to go because he likes to lay down by the door a lot.

Re: NWR: Dog Owners
My dog goes out early in the morning, when my dad comes home for lunch at twelve, I let him out at three and he usually goes out around 930pm. He eats once daily at 6. I'm always filling up his water. But he has certain barks n woods that we know when he wants to go out or wants water so cute
My pup has a bladder of steel, but we still bring him our 3-4x a day. After he got neutered, it took him 2 long days to pee. And when he did...it was all over FH He only poops once a day.
Anyway, we feed him twice a day..in the morning and at 6pm. Sometimes more when we decide to give him some extras (he loves carrots, rice, pasta, apples...so if we have those, we'll share), and of course treats.
