NWR- Dog Owners

Original post by janelle

I am wondering if any of you pet owners, specifically dogs, out there can shed some light on the pros and cons of becoming a dog owner. Would you do it again knowing what you know now? Recently the opportunity has come up where a friend of a friend is looking for a new home for their dog who is about 5 years old, cockapoo. He is crate trained and housebroken. He is such a good dog but my concern is neither one of us have had a pet in our adult years and I know its a big responsibility. We both work and I personally will not be home much at least in the next few months, to take care of him but my fiancee could work something out. Later on this year my situation will hopefully change so that I will be home more. What has been your experiencing as a pet owner and what advice can you offer in making this decision. Thanks in advance.

Re: NWR- Dog Owners

I have a golden retriever who will be 1 on the 14th, and I love her to pieces!! FH and I got her when she was 2 months old, and I have to say that was exhausting. Although dogs are a huge responsibility, 'adopting' an older dog is a great thing! I told FH that when we eventually buy a house and are settled I'd like to get her a friend who is older (can't do the puppy thing again). The cons to an older dog is obviously that they are set in their ways with everything, so changing their routine could bring on new 'behaviors.'
