NWR: Dogs

So FI and I got a puppy on Monday and the poor thing has Kennel Cough. We took him to the vet twice last week and she did an xray and said on Friday that he is okay. We have been giving him his meds but today he has been sleeping all day and not eating. I'm so upset, he has the worst cough

Does anyone know if this is normal?? I feel like the meds are doing nothing for him

Kris..
When I got my dog, he was 10 weeks old and he had kennel cough too. Most puppies get it. Just keep giving him the medicine and he should be fine. My dog would cough and all this phlegmy stuff would come up. It was gross and so sad to see him like that. It should only last a few days though. FH me any puppy related questions..My dog is now 3 1/2 and I know lots about dogs from having him.

My puppy was 8 weeks when FH got her for me, and she also had kennel cough.. It was horrible.. Her nose was running, and she kept coughing. I brought her twice in one week to the vet, and she had the cough for about 2 1/2 weeks. Sleeping is good though, that's how they regain their strength... He'll get better soon .. All in good time!!!

Dont worry, your puppy will get better soon. Unfortunately kennel coughs are very common amongst puppies-where one gets sick and the other catches it right away (common in puppy mills where there are a lot of puppies and they do not receive proper treatment). So now that you have your puppy and are treating him/her for the cough, dont worry he'she will get well soon. Good luck

I don't know about the meds but my puppy sleeps a lot, (that's when they do their growing) And he doesn't have much of an appetite, unless we feed him this I.D. canned food from the vet (how mysterious!!!) But otherwise he is happy and playful, so we don't worry too much. Let the meds work, and when they're done, if he hasn't improved, call the vet!

Don't worry too much about it, it is very common and curable. I know its upsetting because it sounds horrible and they look so sad. My puppy was 8 weeks old when I got him and had a bad case of roundworms. The poor thing barely moved, now he is non stop. Give it a couple of weeks, it gets better.

What kind of pup did you get?

Thanks girl for all your help
At 8:00 he finally got up and started walking around and ate all his food and a treat, so i was much happier! We gave him his medicine again that the vet gave us and he is sleeping. I'm going to see how tom goes and call the vet @ noon. Thanks for all your help

Yea, he'll be okay. When we got our dog he had it bad but as long as he's taking his medicine he will get better in no time. Trust me, I feel your pain...my dog is my life

Re: NWR: Dogs

He'll be okay. Kennel cough is common, especially if you got your dog from a humane society or place where there are a number of other dogs. After a week your dog should be fine. My dog had it and she would fight taking the meds, but then she was fine. Best of luck w/ your puppy!!!!!!!!
