so i'm starting my first year of teaching in september and am in the process of doing my health insurance forms. i want to add fh on my insurance since his expires in dec, but i'm not sure how. i'm assuming i have to file for domestic partnership - can anyone point me in the right direction?
if it helps at all i'll be with the nycdoe and fh and i have been living together going on our 3rd year now, though it's been in 3 different locations and we've just moved in with my parents (i don't know if this makes a difference). we have joint bank accounts and get mail addressed to both of us at this address.
thanks in advance!

Re: NWR: domestic partner (esp. teachers)
I would check to see if your insurance provider recognizes domestic partnerships- I know FH and I looked into doing it, and our insurance said they didn't accep them for me to be under his insurance

Definitely check with your HR department. All FH & I had to do was sign a piece of paper stating that we are not relatives and we are living together for more than 2 years...
That's it.

i' m interested in this too. The only thing that i'm sure of is that that NYC employees can declare domestic partners and all insurance policies recognize that. My thing is what kind of proof do I need! Thanks for posting this.

I know they require more than this. I think a financial statement of some kind or a household bill in both of your names. I can check w/ my sup. tomorrow if you want....

Re: NWR: domestic partner (esp. teachers)
Hey girls. FH and I became domestic partners in February(he works for the NYPD). To show proof, we needed *a joint bank account for at least two months *a joint bill (I added him to my credit card-but he couldn't be just an authorized user, his name had to appear on each statement)
We went to Queens County Courthouse (get there real early!) and make sure you complete everything you can before you go. Also, I think it needs to be notarized...as soon as we sent proof to the insurance company, I was added immediately! I HTH and if you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to FM me! Marie

GHI Does recognize domestic partners. If you have a bill, lease and a bank account in both your names, you should be fine.
That's what I did!
Good luck! The best part is that insurance kicks in right away!
