NWR: Dowling Stinks

NWR: Dowling Stinks

So I finished my MBA this past May, never got anything in the mail about graduation but I didn't think anything of it because I couldn't go anyway, I had a shower and a wedding that day. So yesterday I called to see when my diploma is coming the woman on the phone tells me because I didn't apply for graduation online I won't be getting my diploma, I 'technically' haven't graduated and I have to wait until December to graduate now.

Ummm apply online? I didn't know this. HOW THE HE LL WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW I HAD TO APPLY ONLINE IF YOU DON'T MAIL ANYTHING OR EMAIL PEOPLE????

Her response?? We hung posters up at the Oakdale campus.

So that is awesome for two reasons... One, I don't go to the Oakdale Campus and two, Dowling employs the same tactics to let their students know about graduation that people use to advertise for garage sales.

I am SO glad the tens of thousands of dollars I spent there doesn't warrant a sheet of paper and a 44 cent stamp to let me know there is one more step to finishing my degree.

End Rant

That school still amazes me! You would think for what they charge they would have someone hand delivering you the diploma! Ridiculous!

NYIT did something very similar to me ... except i did find out in time. they supposedly sent the graduation info to my nyit email account (which i never used once in my life!)

it's very frustrating ... but you could still tell people you're graduated

I wanted to apply for a few adjunct positions but when they call Dowling to confirm my degree Dowling will tell them I don't have a degree.

Can you just tell them the truth? that you're done with the classes, but will not be receiving your degree until December?

I could try but I'm not sure if it'll matter. Colleges are pretty strict about letting people adjunct... I could still try.

My friend just graduated from Dowling with his MBA also. He agrees with you, he was actually never told that about doing the online graduation thing, and found out accidentally when he walked into Registrar's office to find out the procedures for getting his cap and gown.

In fact, Dowling not only screwed up by failing to inform students about this, but they screwed up royally by not extending the deadline for students to pick up their cap and gown. When my friend went to register online Friday morning, the computer system said 'registration is now closed.' He was FREAKING OUT because he knew he had to get his cap and gown order in so he had to call the school and find out what was going on.

Some dingbat in the administration finally confessed, 'ohh shoot, no that system isnt supposed to shut down until Saturday morning at 9 am! not Friday !!' He was able to go in and put in his request but he was really pissed. It was then when he discovered about the online graduation thing and managed to get his info in by the deadline.

Lucky for him, he already has a job that paid for his MBA. He had no interest in the MBA only for the fact that it was basically free and he lives in Lindenhurst so the commute wouldn't be so bad. He won't need to pound the pavement with his resume to see what employers really think of an MBA from Dowling....Otherwise, he too was fed up with a lot of Dowling's completely asinine policies!!!
