NWR: driver's license and license plates

After I got married, I moved to a different state. My car is registered in NJ and I now live in New York City.

I want to get a NY state driver's license. Do I need to have NY state license plates as well or can I keep my NJ plates? The car currently sits in my parents' driveway and I never drive it unless I'm in NJ.

I moved from NY to NJ then back to NY. If the car is registered in your name once you get a NY license you will have to hand in your NJ license and NJ plates. Then you will register your car in the state of NY and will be issued NY plates.
