NWR: duvets? duvet covers?

I'm confused... I registered for a down comforter, and was told I'll need to put it in a cover of some sort, but no matter how many times I think I got it, i still don't get it.,.. is the 'duvet' the cover? or is that a fancy name for a comforter, so I need a 'duvet cover'
I feel like i'm doing something wrong, casue I can't really seem to find a good selection of covers. I know it probably seems like a stupid question, but I need help.

Thanks...

Not a stupid question. I just recently learned what a duvet was when my sister bought one. I believe you buy a plain white down comforter. Then the cover you put it in is called a duvet and they come in all different colors and designs. Right ladies?

If you have a comforter like a down comforter which have to be dry cleaned- you want to have a duvet cover that you put over the down comforter so it doesn't get dirty. The duvet cover can go in the wash whenever you need to clean it.

The duvet is a cover you put over the down comforter
