nwr: E-books and NOOK/Kindle?

oes anyone here have an e-reader? Like the NOOK that B&N is heavily advertising? Whats your review?

I was playing around with it at the B&N store and I like how the screen is not bright like a laptop. At first I thought I will NEVER convert to an e-book because I'm a 'true' reader and lover of books BUT i've been slowly packing my stuff in preparation for my moving-in with FI when we get married... and i have a big collection of books!! and there's no space on FI's place for it without making the place look cluttered!

now i'm seriously considering getting the Nook and go e-books just to save space...

I don't know much about them, but I know that the Nook is made by B&N so if you go into any B&N store, you can access the books for free, but once you leave, the books disappear.

As long as you don't mind repurchasing all your fave books, then I say go for it. I'm considering the Nook as well. Some people have said that I should just get an iPad, but I'd rather just read if I'm reading, and if I need internet, that's what my Blackberry is for.

Just a thought HTH!

I'm hot for the Kindle! A friend of mine has a Nook and i was playing around with it and the page turn is sooooooooooooooo sloooooooooooowww!!! It would drive me crazy! I'm a reader to and pretty fast and that would drive me crazy. I think my bridal party is getting me a kindle as my joint gift from them!

ETA: The iPad looks great with the page turn features but the issue with that is the glare on the screen is like a regular laptop so it is difficult to read in sunlight. Also, because it is backlit, it's more of a strain on your eye then a regular book. (The Nook and Kindle are both greyscale to avoid this strain)

HTH!!!

DH got me the kindle for my bday last year. I absolutely LOVE it. I was really kind of leary about getting once since I also love books. I thought I would miss holding a book and the whole experience. I got over that immediately!!!

I carry my kindle with me everywhere!! It was great to take with me on our HM (we were going away for over 3 weeks so I would have normally taken a slew of books). I love that I can download any book within a minute.

I haven't seen the nook yet (heard great reviews of it) but I really do love my kindle!!!!

I felt the same exact way! I still buy the occasional book but as a 'real reader' I love the convenience of the kindle. I have to tell you too - I was further convinced of my love for it when I was packing my apt to move into our house. I had 27 (yes 27) boxes of books!!!!!

I know! I'm the same way- FILs bought us a bedroom set and as additional gift, they bought us another book shelf because we needed it desperately! And I love the look of the books on the shelves and everything! Maybe I'll get the kindle just for travel use, on the cruise, the train, flights, etc. and I'll still read my regular books at home.

I have a Nook and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!

I'm an English teacher, and I always swore I would never get one, but I really really adore mine.

It has wireless web-browsing now, too, which is really cool.

It's so convenient to finish a book and just download a new one immediately! Plus, ebooks are a little cheaper than paper books and it's saving me SO much space in our condo!

I still have paper books, of course, but I love the convenience of my nook! I take it everywhere!

Hi!!
My brother & SIL got me the Nook for Christmas and I love it!

It's super easy to use and the one thing the Nook has that the Kindle and Sony Ereader doesn't (I believe) is ability to loan your ebooks to other Nook readers.

As far as buying books I'm a cheapskate so I hardly ever buy books, I always borrow. NYPL has one of the best e book collections in the country. And it's all free!

My complaints are that it's a little slow to start up and I feel like the page transition should be faster. The quality of the text really is similar to an actual book.

My biggest complaint is I wished it had a back light function you can turn on! Sometimes at night FI likes to watch TV in bed or when he goes to sleep early I like to be in bed with him reading. Not the end of the world just a slight peeve.
