Right now our bedroom light switch wouldnt turn the light off so DH told me to turn the fuse off so he could take the cover of the light switch off. Afer he took it off he tried turning the light off again and it still wouldnt turn off so I turned the fuse off again and turned it back on. The switch started smoking and there was a small fire in the wall. DH was able to blow it out. We turned the fuse off for the night, do we have anything to worry about? It doesnt smell anymore and no fire...is it okay to wait til morning?

Re: NWR: Electrical Fire..should we worry?
I agree, I would call the non-emergency line. They may have to bring a fire engine over anyway. It can be embarrasing but worth the comfort. I had a puff back a few years ago that I listened to the oil company and me and the kids were almost killed by carbon monoxide. My ex husband came home to find us unconscious and unable to hear the alarms blaring. Last year, we had a carbon monoxide leak and I called the FD and they came over and did a read. Luckily it all worked out, but IMO I wouldn't chance it.

DH just put the battery back in it and it works so we'll just have to rely on that tonight.

Better to be safe than sorry...I know I wouldn't be able to sleep if I didn't call. Worst case scenario they come out and tell u everything is safe!

Re: NWR: Electrical Fire..should we worry?
even with an alarm, you can lose all your belongings if you are lucky enough to make it out. Don't forget pets too. I don't mean to be a downer. I am very anal about these things. I unplug most things, esp when I am going away.
P.s-yes, thank you, everything worked out for us in the end, but it was thousands in damage and I can't let go of the site of seeing black running out of my son's nose. It was a definite rude awakening. I took comfort that it would be alright and it wasn't.
