We registered at BBB yesterday. While we were there we saw Emerill pots and pans. The one guy there said they were great because the copper bottom keeps the bottom of the pan from burning, and yet the girl in the registry dept. said they are great but you have to stir every few minutes otherwise what you are cooking will burn because they have the copper bottom. Does anybody have these? If so...what do you think of them? If they are not great can you recommend another brand? TIA

I'm curious too what is everyone's favorite set to register for. We currently registered for the Emerilware because it was affordable and we were told by the salesperson that it was the same quality as All-Clad which manufactures them. I just worry about registering for a Calphalon set that is $600 - I dont know that any of our guests would really buy that!

yea..it's pretty pricey...my husband's best friend brought that for us..but we didn't choose a set that was over $300...actually, when they purchased it, it was on sale and he had an additional 20% off...so that was good...

I was told by the guy that the $600 Calphalon is very good, but made more 'for show'...if you are a big entertainer and want people to admire your cookware....it did seem like a lot to ask for, which is why we went with Emeril, but now i am rethinking. I would hate to have a sauce on the stove, walk away for 5 minutes and have it burn....

Re: NWR-Emerill Pots and Pans...
I have this set for about 9 months and I absolutely adore them!! The only advice I'd give you is for cleaning purposes get the copper scrubber thingys (chore boy copper scrubbing pads? not sure) after cooking things that might stick to the bottom.
As someone else mentioned they are made from the same manufacturer of All Clad, so they are great quality. An All Clad set would run you 700 or 800 at least. I believe the only difference is that these are made overseas or something like that...The woman @ the store told me but now I've forgotten.
They are very sturdy, a nice weight and the tops of the pot stay on perfectly and really seal in heat well. Honestly, I LOVE these pots and pans, haha! They also heat up very evenly.
Also another tip, the top handles of the pots/pans gets very hot when cooking so be sure to use a mitt.

Do you find that most things burn and stick to the bottom if you are not constantly stirring?
P.S. Thanks for the tips!

This might be because when you cook with stainless, it heats up quicker than when you are using the non stick pans. You just have to get adjusted if you are used to cooking with non stick. Try google-ing some tips on cooking with stainless/copper cookware. They just heat up quicker and more evenly due to the material they are made of.

No problem!! I mean there is definitely a difference between this set & a non stick, there is no question. My recommendation if you find it sticks too much for you is to do a quick spray of non stick cooking spray stuff. It works wonders. I personally don't think it's necessary, but it's a logical option.
If things are sticking that means that you are cooking on too high of a heat and whatever's on the bottom is essentially getting burnt onto it...That being said, you will find a bit of residue on the bottom of the pans when cooking in general (the stainless vs non stick thing again)...but easy clean up w the copper scrubbers. Let me know if you need any more info!!
Also they are a great value for the money. I got mine @ Macy's & got a cast iron skillet (these are like $50 each) & something else with it free. Check them out to see if they have any specials.

We have them and love them :) They are great to cook with and I've never had any trouble cleaning them or with stuff sticking to the bottoms.

Re: NWR-Emerill Pots and Pans...
I read the consumer reports and was undecided about non-stick vs. stainless. If you ask any of your moms, aunts, grandmothers. They will all probably tell you they have their stainless, many of which were farberwar, pots from their wedding 30 years ago, etc.
I decided to go with stainless becasue they are less expensive and hold up way longer. My current pots, Cuisinart non-stick, are about 6 years old and are all scratched.
I went with the Calphalon Try Ply stainless set, 13-pieces at BBB for $399 I think it's a great deal. Calphalon is rated higher than Emril's on Consumer reports. This set gives you 3 sauce pots which many sets only give 2. You can also register for the Calphalon value pack of 2 non-stick frying pans for $50 that all the stores have in stock now.

Re: NWR-Emerill Pots and Pans...
I have had mine for about 4 years and I love them! I prefer them to non-stick because once non-stick gets scratched, you really should get rid of them. They are a heavy weight and cook evenly. And if something sticks/burns, you put water and a touch of soap in the pot, put the burner on to let it simmer and it softens whatever burnt.
