NWR- Ever walked in snow with crutches?

I sprained my ankle bad and can't walk without the crutches yet and there's 4' of snow outside. I am scared to death of walking on crutches out there.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks!

I haven't but i understand your fear. When i was on crutches I was afraid of walking in the rain. If you do venture out be careful when you are going into buildings thats when I think its more likeley that the crutch will slip... good luck....

I never have, but wanted to wish you luck. If you don't absolutely have to go out, don't go. Rest up that ankle!

Re: NWR- Ever walked in snow with crutches?

Sorry to hear about your ankle!!

I did this back in Nov 1989 when we had snow over Thanksgiving weekend and I had just been released from the hospital and had to get home. Just go very slowly and have someone walking with you, just in case. What kind of crutches are they? Under the armpit or the cuff ones? Move the crutches first into place, using them as a substitute for your 'bad' leg, or you can move your bad leg WITH the crutches, putting your weight on your good leg to hold you until you move your whole body forward. I'm hoping this makes sense!!

The best advice I had gotten from my PT was 'up with the good, down with the bad' as in going up and down stairs. Also, take baby steps rather than wide strides, which will give you more stability rather than feeling like you'll fall.

If you can..... don't go out in the snow though! Rest up and feel better!!!!!!!

Ugh, I have! Not gonna lie, it *****. Go really slow, and try to have someone with you so you don't have to carry anything and so they can catch you if you slip. Be careful and good luck!
