NWR- Find me a new job (vent)

I've had it... I'm quitting today! I REALLY can't take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!
as you all know I work for a family... a very CHEAP family full of absolute IDIOTS!

The oldest son wants nothing to do with the company... I never even met him in person..
then the middle son is the president... I compare him to ellmer fudd... he sounds like him and acts like him...
the younger son is just a fat lazy spoiled brat!
then there's mommy... she still thinks that I make too much (a whole $12.50/hr)... that I should only be paid $3.00/hr.
she knows nothing about computers... knows nothing on change.. she's 76 years old!

her husband co-owned the company- his partner FIRED her because of how she is... then sold his half... the father later died.

our svc tech has been here since day1 and is the only other person here (besides me) with a brain!

basically... I was talking to the middle son and he asked me a question i told him 'no, not yet' and she asked 'what do you need to know' and I said 'he's taking a phone call' because the guy was holding for over 3 minutes! she yells at me to SHUT UP and mind my own business...

now she's never told me to shut up... but she's told me to mind my business... but she doesn't realize.. NO ONE TALKS TO HER! they ask me and she puts her 2cents in!

so... she leaves to go to the bank after we yell it out... well she did... I just made nasty comments (more sarcastic then anything)

I start crying.. I hate it! when I get mad I cry!

so my svc tech comes in and totally takes my side.. he said she's wrong. and told me to stop crying.. so now i feel like a total @sshole!


anyway- I need a new job!
I'm an admin asst.
honestly- I'm better at management.
I like to be in control.. I'm good at it.
I answer phones, file, basically I do EVERYTHING- invoices.. A/R, A/P, bookkeeping... customer service.. I KEEP them customers.. because no customer can stand them! they feel they are too slow and don't do a good job- I'm good at getting the customer back.

if anyone knows anywhere (in suffolk) that's hiring... please let me know!
I can't take it anymore!

trust me.. anything is better then this place!
They are really cheap here... I ordered folders for $4.00 and she got mad... she used the same folders for TWENTY FOUR YEARS! she'd just tape them up if they ripped.
I get paid sooo low and do so much! I understand we're in an economic crunch.. but still...

and they are ALWAYS late... and it reflects on me for thinking they can hold an appointment.

I told FH I was going to try and get my old job back at k-mart! I worked there 7 years ago for like 3 months and hated it.. but its better then this place!

I feel your pain. Just go in, ignore everyone around you and do what's asked of you, no more no less. No one even knows I'm alive at my place unless they need something and the ahole I work for..that's a whole nother story.. I send out resumes galore and only got 1 interview in 3 months so I don't know whats going on.

its hard.. there's only FOUR of us on payroll.. plus the mother.. so that's 5. our svc tech isn't in shop that often and the youngest son only comes in once or twice a week... so its basically me.. the middle son and the mother.

When I was hired here 3½ years ago I was supposed to be part time for 3 months then take over her position...
yea.. I'm still part time (30 hours) and now she refuses to leave because she thinks her kids can't get by without her... because maybe if she stopped doing EVERYTHING for them they might learn to survive!

seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if she offered to wipe their asses!

I know you are frustrated, but I totally take offense to your comment. There is no need to bring that into your situation. Sounds like you need to grow up and take responsibility for your situation. I have heard you complaining numerous times about your job and it doesn't sound like you have done anything about it but whine. You need to handle this like a professional and put in a formal complaint or suck it up and look for something eles. Quitting a job without having another is not going to make your situation any better.

Of course you can put in a formal complaint. Write one up and give it to your boss. That way it will be documented. Keep a copy for yourself. You have to let them see that you are a professional and deserve to be treated as one. Just because you work for a family business doesn't mean they can treat you the way they do.

I can write a complaint, but it will just end up back on my desk or in the garbage or lost on his desk. OR (worst case) it'll end up in HER hands (which I can 99% guarantee would happen) and she'll make my days WORSE!

Thats horrible...trust me, I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL...OMG! I'm an admin asst too, I work for a financial firm though (but its founded by and ran by mom and pop) and needless to say, I am searching CareerBuilder, Monster, Hotjobs as I type this!!!

If I were you I would be putting my resume up everywhere online. I was sooooooooo close to quitting today too, these people are nuts....just try to set up another job before you quit!

I'm sorry hun. I agree with the other girls definately start looking send out resume galore. Hopefully you will be out of there soon.

And, of course 'filing' a formal complaint in a small family business won't do anything! It will be filed right in the garbage and will only make your life worse! Small privately owned companies don't have to accoun to anyone. And seriously, going to HR in most large companies will make your life a living H@ll too!

I know you are frustrated but a lousy job is better than no job. I know so many highly trained professionals that are out of work right now. Try not to get wrapped up in the emotional drama of your environment. I know it is much easier said than done but it will help your situation. Try not to cry at work- If you feel yourself on the verge of tears get up and go to the ladies room. People like your bosses mom feed off of stuff like this...not to mention that it does not look professional . Attempt to view you job simply as a pay check how ever small it is until you can find something else. Good Luck!
