NWR: First Mamo - older brides

NWR: First Mamo - older brides

I went for my very first mamogram today. I'm so freakin' scared. I went as a baseline. When you turn 35, they suggest you go. Woman I work with is barely 40 and was just diagnosed. Living on LI for 27 years and going there most weekends... I feel doomed. Didn't LI always have a high rate of breast cancer?

Just thought I'd share. So nervous to hear back.

Anyone else ever get one?

I go every 6 months for a mammo and a sono becuase of multiple tumors. I stopped stressing after the first few times. It really doesn't pay to get all stressed and freaked out until you know the results. It will all work out.

Don't be scared.
I had my baseline at 35, then my first of annual ones last year (age 40). I have to make the appointment for this year's test.

Has your gyno told you about a new test ?
Mine went into detail about Halo, which they call the pap test of the breast. Basically a bit of fluid is suctioned out thru the nipples and then analyzed for any cancer cells. It is supposed to catch anything years before it would show up on a mammo. Insurance won't cover it yet, my gyno charges $150 for the test. My husband told me to go ahead and do it because it is for my health.

Here's the web site.

HALO test

I'll still have the regular mammo since insurance covers it, and then have the Halo done in September when I go back.
My mom died of endometrial cancer, which is also an estrogen fed cancer, that's why I go twice a year.

I didn't get one yet (like you said they don't suggest it until your 35 or high risk) but it would be enough to freak me out a bit.

I had the halo test done last month & had to pay for it too- imho it was worth every penny! It lasted about 5 minutes- they put these suctions on your breasts and it looks a little like a breast pump- it fills up with warm water and squeezes you- it was uncomfortable but not really painful

You can watch a video of it here. We looked it up and it's actually closer for me to go on Long Island than where I live in NJ. Ha ha! Too bad health centers are always closed on weekends. Maybe I'll go one day though. I just pray my results are OK.

ive been going since 30 - it was recommended since my mom had breast cancer. It is a little scary b/c you usually have to go back.

When your young and your breast are dense - they are harder to read the mammo. Ive already had to go for multi mammos, sonos, and even a stereotactic biopsy. Everything was ok - but they have to be thorough.

Dont worry - you'll be fine
