NWR - Five Boro Bike New York

Has anyone ever done this tour before? Its 42 miles through NYC, it sounds like fun, but I'm not sure I can do 42 miles!! For those that did it, can a beginner, very out of shape person do it?

my friends have done it, i signed up for the 30 mile one last year and then got hives that day and couldnt do it. my friends still joke that i gave myself hives so i wouldnt have to do it. in my opinion, if you're not used to riding, i think it's too much. i can do at most 15 miles and i'm very out of shape and rarely ride. also, remember that it's not a straight path so there's work involved as far as bridges that may be slightly hilly.
but, i think if u started riding now, u can definitely get there by the time of the ride. (it's in fall, right?)

I think there are shorter distances? A friend of mine has done it, she and I used to train and ride together and she thought it was too slow--many more novices than experienced riders. Keep in mind, it's easier to ride in a big group than it is for you to do 42 miles by yourself. There are probably rest stops along the way as well....

Sorry i couldn't speak from my own personal experience, but I think this should help somewhat. If you need any more cycling advice, feel free to FM me.

It's May 4th - when my FH and I go biking we usually do 10-15 miles at a time, I've never actually tried more than that.

Haha, rest stops are extremely needed for me I'm sure. I don't plan on going super fast, just finishing (hopefully). Any cycling advice would be appreciated since I'm as novice as they come.

I was just as novice as you last year. I signed up for a 32 mile ride in august. Before that the most i did was 18 miles. and that was 2 days before the ride. I got to the ride and they told us it was 35 miles... I was mentally out of it after that. However, I did finish the ride and I did not come in last!!!! Obviously its not as long as the ride you are thinking of doing, but I would definitely do it again. They had 3 rest stops. one every 10 miles or so. so I had a mental note to just make it to the next rest stop each time. We rode out in suffolk county where there were alot of hills and a few overpasses, nothing like what I had done before, but i must say that I may do it again this year. HTH.
