NWR: FMIL kinda long!!

NWR: FMIL kinda long!!

FH's parents are divorced... his dad is still supporting FMIL... She is so far gone with the alcoholism, that she cant hold a job...

they have been trying to sell their house for over a year... they finally have a buyer and its been taking a long time for the buyer to finally get approved and blah blah... so we started looking at apts for her... we went to a building by us and FMIL got too drunk and never dropped off the deposit (OR SO WE THOUGHT)... we just found out that the buyer was appoved and they are closing in like 2 or 3 weeks... so FH went back to the bld to try and get FMIL the apartment... apparently FMIL threatened one of the workers at the building... she showed up drunk and threatened to KILL HIM!!! so now they are giving FH a really hard time about giving her an apt...

***???? who does that...

we cant get an apartment for her in someones house... that could be a serious nighmare...

no one can afford to put her in some sort of rehab place... no one wants her to stay with them... i think she should stay with one of her aunts, who is exactly like her excpet at 80something she is much nicer and functioning alcoholic than FMIL....

i would start looking somewhere else if possible. it might be hard to get into a place where she threatened someone.

good luck hun!!!

Re: NWR: FMIL kinda long!!

a friend of mine is going through something similar with her dad...
I tried helping her look for places to put him, but she's nervous he'll lose the house he and his sister own. right now he IS working, he just drinks at night... but he has health problems.

anyway... I know there's a few places that are gov't funded and you don't have to pay that much (if anything). There was one out in port jeff, but I don't know the name. I can't ask my friend either, she's away on business and I won't hear from her for 2 weeks (boo).

I'm sorry you're going through this.

Aww, I'm sorry you're going through that

There may be resources out there for a rehabilitation facility; surely there are ones that are government-funded, right? Does she have health insurance? Sometimes health insurance will cover some of the cost, since alcoholism is a disease.

I'd start looking elsewhere for an apartment for her...definitely more of a building situation, you know? It'll be really hard to convince the first building to let her live there after she caused a scene.

Sorry again

just wanted to add that even if she has FFIL's insurance, she still could qualify for a second level of coverage. that is good especially if FFIL's coverage is cr@ppy!

Re: NWR: FMIL kinda long!!

Most alcoholics (my father included) would rather die from the disease than to get treatment. The hardest thing is, is the your FH will never really get to the live and live stage. He will always try to help his mother (or at least want to). Most people can't be helped unless they are willing to get help.

I am so sorry. It's an awful situation. I grew up in it. ***** and extremely embarrassing. Just listen to him and be supportive to your FH. That's all you can do.

She's already gone into treatement twice in the 8 1/2 years Fh and I have been together... its sad because you are absolutely right... he tells her all the time that she is cut off, but a week later he goes right back...

Re: NWR: FMIL kinda long!!

Because no matter, she is his mother. And even though FH is the child, and she is the parent, he will always feel like he has to take care of her. It stinks. If you ever need some inside info from an outside party who lived it, or just to vent, feel free to FM me.
