Does anyone have a fondue set? We registered for (and received) the Cuisinart one they have at BBB and tried it out once.... with a cheese fondue... and it came out awful!
We didn't follow the recipe exactly because the cheese they recommended was so expensive and we assumed all swiss was the same (oops!) but it didn't really melt right and it tasted gross. Plus, it was way too much stuff for just the 2 of us.
We want to try chocolate next, but the fondue thing is so big we are thinking about exchanging it for a tiny individual sized one.
Any tips for a fondue beginner? anything we should make sure NOT to do? we want to give it one more shot before giving up

Re: NWR: Fondue?
I really like fondue, I haven't made it since college, but I think all I put in was Gruyere cheese and Emmenthaler cheese ( I did about a 50/50 ratio), then some white wine and a bit of lemon juice. I think the key is to make sure you add enough wine so that the cheese isn't overpowering and thick.
I got the Cuisinart fondue pot too, as an engagement present. I say, don't give up and give it another try because it really is delicious!

Re: NWR: Fondue?
We've only used it for cheese fondue. Here's the recipe we use. We didnt use any of the dry mustard or cayenne and it turned out fine.
INGREDIENTS 1/4 cup milk 1/4 cup white wine 1 (8 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese 1 (8 ounce) package shredded Monterey Jack cheese 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup chopped green onions 1/4 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained 1 teaspoon ground dry mustard 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
DIRECTIONS In a medium saucepan over medium heat, mix together milk, white wine, Cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack cheese and cream cheese. Cook, stirring frequently, until melted, about 10 minutes. Stir in green onions, spinach, dry mustard, cayenne pepper, garlic powder and black pepper. Continue cooking until all ingredients are well blended, about 10 minutes. Transfer mixture to a double boiler or fondue pot to keep warm while serving.
