I know there are lots of you who work in elementary schools and I was just wondering if any of you can FM me if you know of an opening in your school for next fall or if you anticipate an opening.
I am starting the job search and need all the help and support I can get. I am open to taking any elementary school grade, both regular or special ed. Thanks so much in advance for any help anyone can give!

if i were you, i would apply for my 5th-9th grade special ed cert. depending on the school you went to, you can get that certification with no extra classes or tests or anything, that would greatly open up your chances of getting a job, also, if you minored in an academic subject or had an area of concentration, all you have to do is take your CST and youll be certified in that as well, elem is very limited but if they see you have those certs as well it makes you more marketable...FM me if you want more details, this is what i did and i got a job within a month

In Brooklyn I know PS 315 (Midwood area) and PS 253 (Brighton Beach area) will be hiring for sure.

Re: NWR- for the elementary school teachers
I applied to all the District 75 (Special Ed schools) in Queens. There's always openings. Also try the OLAS system. It can be hard to get a job on LI with no classroom experience. They often want you to have 1 or 2 years under your belt.

Re: NWR- for the elementary school teachers
Heyyy...I'm also certified in elementary ed and special ed...i do have some ABA experience and i've taught 6,7,8th grade as well as pre-k. If ANY one has any information about getting a job i'd really appreciate it too!!! It's so incredibly frustrating that you have to know someone to get in these days! Thanks sooo much!

Re: NWR- for the elementary school teachers
Many areas on the island are hurting right now. Enrollment is low. Get your resumes out there as often as possible, and def apply in queens/brooklyn/city as well. I have a few friends on the island who are being excessed because of enrollment and they've been in the district for years...just keep sending out resumes and try walking some in to districts you are really interested in. It's great that you're special ed certified too, that will def help! Good luck!

Re: NWR- for the elementary school teachers
nyc schools are always looking and i actually LOVE it here (despite other people's negative comments). D75 schools (special ed) seem to have more openings than others and it's good if you're going to be teaching special ed for the first time to be in an environment that's supportive of it. a lot of times in a gen ed school you'll be one of few or the only special ed teacher and pretty much fending for yourself.
