We found a cat in the (Shirley) neighborhood who is a young, non-neutered male. He is really friendly but had been left outside for days (from what we and our neighbors noticed). We took him in yesterday due to the EXTREMELY cold temps & snow, but we have 2 dogs and are doggy-sitting another – and they do not get along. We have him in the bathroom so he is warm, with a bed & a litter box but this is only a temporary fix.
That's so nice that you took the cat in, but chances are someone lost him/her and please don't take offense to this, but you really shouldnt be offering it up for adoption but instead you should try to find its owner. IDK if you're on Facebook but there's a page for lost pets on LI and you should probably bring it to a shelter.

yes, i am on that page on facebook and have already posted, as well as to 3-4 other similar pages. This cat had been out for over a week in our neighborhood, but ONLY the past week. The owners probably moved or are very mean to leave him out in the snow/winter. We checked if he had a microchip or a lost poster at the local vet and put a found poster up. All of the local shelters and animal rescues are too full of cats to take him in (I called 11 of them, working on the other 5-6 on my list). We cannot keep him much longer but are trying to adopt him to someone we know, in case something changes with the owner.

it's so sweet of you to take in the cat while you find it's owner or a new home for it!

I live in a 1 bedroom apartment with a beagle so I'd probably do more harm to the cat than good if I adopted it lol but I wanted to say that the lengths you're going to is really sweet! That cat was lucky to find you guys! Good luck & I'll keep my ears open to see if anyone wants a cat

Wow that is so sweet of you. You are a true example of what people should do when they see an animal in need!
We recently found a stray cat in the street (2 months old in the rain!)a couple months ago and kept her because I just couldn't let that poor sweet cute little cat go to one of those shelters. We already have two cats so I understand not having any room. Luckily they all KINDA get along.
That cat is so cute though! I hope you find it a home or it's owner! Ask in your community! Maybe someone wants a cat :)
