Girls i need your honest thoughts. I picked up take out last night late and i was on my cell phone i know the amount that i signed for (FH tossed the garbage already) and it was approx $5 less then my debit card was charged, and what i agreed to pay by signature. Do you think there is a reasonable explanation or is it a scam because they believed i was distracted? On the receipt i signed there was a spot free or tip which i usually cross out but this time i did just put zeros in. Help im not happy and im not sure if i should make a big deal or if it is some kind of debit card charge.

Re: NWR: Fraud or explanation?
I think it is a scam. There is a chinese restaurant in Long Beach that adds $5.00 to every take-out order because they think people won't realize. I would report the place!!!!!!!

Re: NWR: Fraud or explanation?
HI I managed a restaurant for 13 years so i got calls about this all of the time. If you used your debit card the bank automatically puts a 15-20% gratuity hold on purchases in a restaurant type facility. Its just a hold in case you decide to leave a tip and do not have enough funds in your account to cover the cost. when a restaurant runs your debit card it is just an authorization for the amount you charged, the actual transaction goes through at the end of the night when the restaurant closes its credit card machine thats why the bank needs to include ( put a hod of a gratuity) an amount in the authorization process for the tip. when the transaction is complete on your statement and not in the pending purchases the tip hold will not be there, you will only be charged the amount you signed for. Call your bank to confirm this they should tell you the same thing. if when the purchase goes through completely and that $5 is still their i would call the bank then the restaurant. Hold this helps FM if you have other questiosn about it!! GL

sounds like a scam, if the restaurant won't refund you then contact your bank. if you have the receipt they have to refund you.

Don't freak out yet, they may have just authorized the card for more automatically. Wait a few days and then see what the amount is.

Re: NWR: Fraud or explanation?
Maybe there's a surcharge for using a card if you don't spend more than a certain amount?
$5, that's annoying, but since you don't have the receipt, I'd personally probably just let it go this time. Or maybe i'd call to inquire about it and see what they say, but I don't know if I'd make a big deal about it. I Dunno, tough spot

Re: NWR: Fraud or explanation?
i was scammed by a nail salon out here in ATL. My recp't said $0.00 tip-- because i paid the tip in cash. but when i pull up my online banking info the salon fee was increased by $4.00. I had to fax my recp't to the bank to clear it up. The bank gave me back the money. What a rip off! i never went there again.
Never throw away your recp't before it clears your acct.
