NWR: Free or Low Cost Vets??

Does anyone know where my cousin would be able to take her rabbit to the vet. He has maggots and theyre slowly eating him up. My cousin is young and doesnt have money but she loves her little rabbit. Does anyone know where she can bring him where they wont charge her an insane amt of money?? She lives in Huntington

oh my goodness...maggots? that sounds absolutely terrible, how did that happen? i have two rabbits and it is important that they go to rabbit-savy vets, many vets just know nothing about rabbits. here is a vet in her area that is rabbit savy and recommended by the long island rabbit rescue. i am not sure if she is inexpensive, but if the rabbit has maggots it should REALLY get some attention or maybe even be put down if it is suffering too much and she can't afford the care.

eta: here is the emergency line for the long island rabbit rescue. maybe they can take the bunny and give it the care it needs if your cousin cannot afford it. (516) 510-3637

Thank you so much. The rabbit is actually her neighbors upstairs and it lives in the backyard. But my cousin has grown to love it and takes care of it. The neighbors dont want to do anything about it so my cousin is trying to take it into her own hands so it doesnt die. Apparently its caled a Flystrike where eggs are laid on the rabbit and they end up with maggots. Ive read online it is curable but Im sure if it doesnt get help soon it wont be so lucky. Im going to give the vet a call. I really appreciate that.

how wonderful of you and your cousin to care so much to want to help the bunny, the owners sound like not so nice people! good luck and keep us updated!

i think she can take it to the ASPCA ... i know its not near her but they have low cost vets. I would also call the rabbit rescue they should have information on vets since they're non profit organization.
