NWR - frustrated with summer interns....

NWR - frustrated with summer interns....

I work at a law firm and right now we have a lot of summer associates here (my apologies if you are a summer associate at a law firm right now!). Some of them are totally fantastic, work hard, follow directions, and always ask questions if they aren't sure. But I am the head of a team of 5 associates right now, and 2 of them are really stressing me out -- I am not sure if they have ever written a letter before, because they can't seem to understand how to write an address (I AM NOT KIDDING), and they don't proofread AT ALL.... and I was talking to a partner yesterday who had a summer associate write a memo and he wasn't happy with the quality of the memo or the effort that seemed to go into the research. Do these people not realize that after every project I have to evaluate them for HR?

The summer interns here (I am in science not law) are the same way. One of the girls just graduated from Cornell and wants to go to med school. Yet when I handed her a research article she looked at me like I had 20 heads. She was like 'what is this?'

We had a summer student last year who was from MIT and he had no idea how to use Excel.

I was a Summer Associate once, and the rest of the team didn't do a thing . . . . they wound up sitting me in an office across from the senior partner all summer while the rest shared the library!! hahaha

I'm an accountant and we have a few summer interns. They do ask alot of questions, which is good for them but horrible for me. I'm going to spend a few hours each day teaching them something new to do when in 2 months i'm gong to be back to doing it myself!!! Is it really worth my time to teach theM??

I'm a summer associate!!!

And yes, I know how the system works, especially since I was a summer last year too.... *crossing my fingers*

it's weird because the way you write a memo in 'real life' is very different from what we were taught in law school... maybe that's part of the problem?
