NWR - Gall Bladders

After a month of tests my dr sent me for an insanely painful HIDA scan yesterday. Getting results on Fri. Hoping and praying its my gallbladder because I have never had painful attacks like this in my life.

Anyone ever have one removed? How long did it take for your drs to decide remove it? And what did you eat so you didnt have an attack?

Any help would be appreciated I am starving and afraid to eat.

FM me - I had mine out. In the time being - bland food - vegetables are hard to digest. Gatorade also worked for me. Stay away from soda. Took my drs. forever because they weren't sure what was wrong w/ me and they still didn't know as I was getting on the operating table.

my doctors THINK there's something wrong with mine as well... but haven't done any tests on it, besides a sonogram.

I did have to go a the bratt diet for a while:
bread
rice
applesause
tea
toast

NO spices or butter
honestly, when I got home from the dr I ate pasta with some i cant believe its not butter spray.. and I felt fine!

drink plenty of water/gatorade, the lighter the color, the better (like light blue, yellow and green)

My sisterinlaw had hers removed 2 weeks after giving birth to my nephew, I dont remember the details, as it was 13 years ago.. my brother had his removed about 6 or 7 years ago.. the only thing i remember him saying was that after it hurt like helll cause he was so full of gas and couldn't put any pressure to 'force' it out and a few days later he changed positions on the couch and finally 'broke wind' for a good three minutes (straight ) he said it was the best feeling in the world!

FSIL had hers removed about a year ago she doesn't talk much about it, but I remember her in so much pain while she was preggo because of it.

Just relax and try and stay hydrated... feel better!

I had my gall bladder removed. My mistake was that I waited two years to get it removed. It was so bad it got to the point where I would get an attack no matter what I ate. Knowing what I know now, I would get it taken care of ASAP.

Avoid greasy/high fatty foods and drink a lot of water.

Recovery time is not bad at all normally. I was in the hospital for a week but mine was so infected and that's really not the norm. They **** it out right through your belly button!

I had mine removed. Had one of the top gall bladder specialists remove mine.

Got it done at North Shore Syosset. Went in at 8:30 or so and woke up by 10 - 10:30. My surgery was done laproscopically (sp?). They do four incisions like a huge triangle, one above the belly button, at the belly button, one on your right side level with your belly button and one on your right side diagonally from the incision above your belly button. I don't know if that is clear.

You will need to eat mild foods like gelatin, crakers at first. Normally it takes about 2 weeks to recover. But after that you can eat whatever you want. The only thing for me is that greasy foods don't settle well for me.

Oh I want this thing out. I get the test results back on Fri and hope they schedule me to have surgery instead of putting me on the fat free gall bladder diet to see if they can fix it first.

Avoid fatty foods. unless its infected, surgery is typically easy and done laparoscopically, meaning fill ur belly with gas and insert a camera through an incision on ur belly (lower belly button) and another incision or 2 to insert instruments to remove and voila!! Take the sucker out!

I had mine out in september. i was having attacks from everything i ate or drank for a week until i got sent for an ultra sound. if its filled with stones there really is no alternative but surgery. if one of the stones gets stuck in your bile duct you are in big trouble and they have to open you up instead of being able to do the surgery laproscopically which is the much better route. The old way it was 6 weeks of recovery. I had surgery on a friday at 7:30 am and was released by 6 pm and that was only because no one could diagnose me for almsot 2 years too (i went to the er and they thought it was gastritis or ulcers) and so my gallbladder was chronically infected and filled wtih stones. I was eating normally by sunday and back to work by thursday (although i should have stayed out the entire week). i still have the little marks (two on my belly and one at the bottom of my bra line) but you can hardly see them and its much better than the alternative.

while you are waiting avoid fatty, greasy, fried or spicy foods and alcohol. no pizza, fries, wine or ice cream. i was able to eat salads with vinagrette dressing and all different types of dairy foods but some people don't tolerate those well with gallstones.

After the surgery they told me to avoid grean leafy veggies and soda for 2 weeks but after that you are all good.

FM me if you need any more information and good luck!

My FH and MOH both had theirs removed. FH was up and about in a day. He took it easy though for a while. MOH had some more pain that FH but that was all. They do it lapricopically now so there is hardly any scarring also.

They both feel better since having them out only they have much more sensitive stomachs and have to watch what they eat more. (or they should... fh doesn't listen very well.)

I had mine removed 3 years ago. I wasnt feeling good and went to the dr., he sent me for an ultrascan which I had the day after thanksgiving and had my gallbladder out December 12. So they decieded rather quickly once they found I had gallstones the size of golf balls that I needed it out.

The surgury wasn't that bad either but had to stay in the hosptial over night.

FM me if you have anymore questions.

I hope your feeling better and they figure out whats going on!
