NWR - Gift Ideas for FH after he runs the NYC Marathon!

FH is running the NYC marathon for the second time this November, and I want to get him a little something as a congratulations!

I already checked out the marathon-related items on Cafe Press...

Any ideas - doesn't necessarily have to be running or marathon related. I was thinking of getting him a gift certificate for a massage, but I don't know anywhere reputable... and I'd rather do that part myself.

I also thought about getting him a few bottles of wine that I know he really likes... but that is sort of a gift for both of us since it would go into our collection. I'm still considering that idea.

Any other creative and/or possible sentimental ideas? I already got him a NYC Marathon training shirt earlier in his training.

I dont have any ideas for gifts, but I just wanted to say how awesome it is that he's running the marathon! It takes so much determination and passion

Aw, thanks! I think it's awesome, too, so I really wanted to do something special for him.

He wants me to run it with him next year... Uh... UH-OH!

I think I would go with one of those foot soaker or massagers from somewhere like Sharper Image and some fuzzy slippers!

Oooh, another good idea... Maybe we'll stay in the city the night before or the night after... or both!

ETA - I'd have to ask him about that, though. I'm sure he wants to sleep in his own bed the night before - and eat about 1 pound of pasta

He may want to be home afterwards, too, since the recovery the day after is no fun...

But he may also want to be closer to the marathon so he can sleep a little bit later the morning of the race... I'll definitely ask him!

We're going away in late November, so a weekend away before that probably wouldn't make too much sense for us.

I think if you go the dinner and hotel route that you should save it for another day. Maybe just make him a certificate with the details that you give to him after the marathon. The night before he'd need rest so it would sort of be a waste of a nice hotel room and the night after (and a couple days after that) he will probably be exhausted and need recovery time.

You're totally right! I must have been editing my post while you were writing that.

We'll also have his parents in town that weekend... and the race is on a Sunday... So it would have to be another weekend.

I may need to come up with another idea since we're going away a few weeks later...
