NWR: Glen Cove

Hi ladies. FH and I are on the hunt for our first apartment! We think we found a good one in Glen Cove but I read some mixed reviews about the area that got me a little nervous. I'm a south shore girl so I dont really know the area. i was hoping I could get some feedback. Thanks!

We live in the city, but have all our family on the Island. I always thought Glen Cove was generally one of the nicest parts of the Island. But I dont have any personal experience.

I think like any other town on Long Island, it depends what part. Every town has a shady side. Drive around at night, drive around during the day. Look at your neighbors, look at the buildings/houses surrounding where you are. If you feel safe, I wouldn't worry about it.

Glen Cove isn't that great. It WAS, but not anymore. Homes aren't worth much over there anymore and the crime has gone up a bit. The areas in Nassau with coops or other apartments that are the best in my opinion would be Floral Park, Williston Park and some areas of Mineola, and Garden City South because these areas all have town areas that you can walk to for groceries and other things and are also very close to train stations. Some areas of Franklin Square, Lynbrook, Malverne, Rockville Centre, and Garden City are also near to shopping and town areas as well. If you're looking at coops, check out the Cherry Valley apartments in Garden City or Flowerview in Floral Park

I live in Glen Cove and it has its good parts and bad parts. There are multi million dollar homes by the beach, and there are also housing projects on the other side of town. It depends on where the apartment is. I always feel safe in Glen Cove though, and I love that we are a 15 minute walk from Morgans Park and the beach. FM me if you want more info!

Almost every town has it's good or bad areas. If there is a place you love check out the town and drive around at all hours of the day to see the atmosphere. Is there a reason you are looking in Glen Cove? Williston Park and Garden City are very nice.

I highly recommend Williston Park as well. Grew up and lived there for 26 years! FH and I moved to Long Beach 2 years ago, but plan on buying in WP. We LOVE Long Beach too. Soooo many things to do and def the best nightlife.

It has good and bad parts. FH and I almost purchased a co-op until I realized it was pretty much on way in and out.It would have aken to long to get anywhere.

Thanks ladies! We decided to pass on the glen cove apartment. The distance from the parkways was definitely a factor. I appreciate the help!

I work in Glen Cove and like the others have said, there are good and bad parts. The worst part is definitely that it is SO far from the parkway - it takes me forever to get home. If you're looking in that area though, Sea Cliff and Rosyln Heights are both really nice and near the water! We started looking for an apartment in the Port Washington/Manhasset area because I loved the town but nothing is set in stone.

I highly suggest taking a ride around and seeing which areas you like. Once you find one, go into a local real estate agent because they will have access to more listings than what's posted online and the places they have shown me are much nicer and more affordable than the ones I've seen on MLS and Trulia. Best of luck!!
