NWR- got my W-2 form. Question about $600 check received last summer.
Has anyone filed their taxes yet? I usually do them on my own, but because we received those pre tax checks (up to $600) back in the summer do we have to claim that?

there is going to be a section when you file your return asking if you received the check but it will not impact your return if you say yes. Only if you did not receive you will be eligible when you file your income tax

I'm an accountant. That $600 is not taxable income.

Nope.....I haven't got my W2 form. I think and am sure $600 is not taxable

but shouldnt it come out of my return. I thought it was a 'loan'

yes it is. It's government relief to try to get the economy spending. We received a check like this after 9/11

so say even though you pay taxes yourself, but your parents were able to claim you for the year 2007, & you were over 17 - and ur parents didnt receive a dime extra for you...do i get to claim it on my taxes this year??

yes - when you file your return, you'll be asked if you received a stimulus check already - enter that you received $0 and there will be a line item on your return adding $600 to your refund.
