NWR: Grad Students
I hope this isn't a dumb question but I am starting grad school in the fall and I am wondering if, for grad classes, it is customary to have the syllabus and materials before you start classes?

No, most of my professors gave the syllabus the first day. Some people would get the book before class though, but I like to wait and see if I really need it. I think it depends on the school..Good luck!!
I usually get mine the first day of classes, but I would always email the professor ahead of time to find out about textbooks so I could just borrow them from the library instead of having to buy them. HTH!
Yes, I just finsihed my MBA and I used to get mine like a week before
some of mine put it up on blackboard like a week or 2 before but most it was on the first day
I usually get the books before class starts, and some professors email you the syllabus and other stuff for the first day so I would say check your school email
Thanks guys! I wasn't sure and didn't want to look like an idiot first day of classes!
I have always had course materials handed out the first day of the course. When I started grad school at Einstein we had a week long orientation during which we registered for classes.
I have had some of both.... some want you to have materials before and some don't I think it deppends on the professor
Oh, and let me pass on a tip I learned my second year. Don't buy all of the books if you know that you'll have some steady library time in between classes or on days off. I had classes on Tuesdays from 9am - 8:30 pm with a four hour break in between two classes. All of my required books and articles were in the library, so I saved myself a small fortune by just using my free time wisely.
