Re: NWR: GRE Exam

It is very similar to the SAT that you took in high school.
Did you do well?
For the English section, you should memorize all of the vocabulary words and practice with the passages. The more books you can practice with, the better.
You can probably find GRE books in your library instead of buying the books.
Also, you can take a free diagnostic exam at Kaplan.

It consists of 3 parts Analtical Writing, Verbal and Math, and then there is an experimental section that can be any of the three. Your score is valid for 5 years. You'd want to take the test about a year before your anticipated start date for grad school...HTH's. I work for Kaplan, and they offer great classroom courses to get you ready to prep. If you want more info you can FM me...

Its pretty much like the SAT, but has three sections, math, english and analytical. Look to see what scores your schools need- i.e vet schools did not look at the analytical score so I just studied really for the math and english. I got a bunch of books and memorized the voc words. the math I thought was easier than the SAT. There are also online programs which can test you. I did take it 7 years ago (wow, i feel old), so you may want to get more advice from someone who took it more recently! GL!!

I did princeton review to prep me for the GRE. It is a lot like the SAT and I got similar scores on both tests

I took the GREs for psychology without any prep courses, but I had two books to help me study for it. I didn't do so well - I think the math part kicked my butt. So I ended up changing my major to social work and I got into NYU who didn't even require the GRE exam!

Re: NWR: GRE Exam

same like SATs

Just get any one of those books and do the questions over and over and over and over and over

Not hard when you are prepared for every type of question.

Re: NWR: GRE Exam

The test is good for up to 5 years, but you need to take it about a min of one year before you plan to enter grad school, to account for th application process, etc... eg: if you plan to enter in fall of 2010, you need to make sure you have scores on record by Oct 2009. The test is offered year round, and it required for many grad programs, but not all. Look to make sure the programs you are applying to require the exam and get an idea of what score they look for. If they require the exam, then start to prep now if you have time. If you need to get an idea of how you would score without putting an official score on record, you can take a free practice test with Kaplan, no obligations. Kaplan also has free admissions seminars and test secrets seminars. I work for Kaplan too, FM me if you have any other questions on how to prep or admissions

Good luck!

Re: NWR: GRE Exam

For ladies working in Kaplan, is it true that they make the practice test a little harder so that you will score lower on their practice test.

That way you are really amped up to shell out the bux

Re: NWR: GRE Exam

Kaplan's practice tests are normed to be as difficult as the real test. Some people don't take the practice test seriously, so they often times don't get the score they are looking for. I score the tests for the events all of the time, and we have a normal distribution of people who score at all of the different ranges.

Re: NWR: GRE Exam

i took the GRE last year, and i would definitely recommend buying the book, it helps you know what to expect and made me less nervous for the test because I had practiced. I took it after studying for about 3 months...it wasn't that bad of a test, just weird since it is done on a computer, and I was used to taking just standard pencil and paper tests.
