NWR: Hair Straighteners.......

I wanted to ask you girls, do you bring a hair straightener from here when you are going overseas. My hair gets really bad in the humidity (curly) and I need a HS to tame it and get it nice and silky straight. Last year I bought one from there but it sux so I was thinking of bringing the one I have from here. But I am afraid of the power difference that Europe has, its dangerous and I dont want to get electricuted. Pl share your hair experiences when you are in another country

Re: NWR: Hair Straighteners.......

just buy an adapter that they make for you to plug youe american plugs into..check online..im not sure exactly where to get one or how much

but they are kind of like extension cords taht you plug your appliance into and then on the other side it has the european plug so there are no problems

Yeah I always use converters but for cameras and video, little things that dont have alot of voltage. I am scared bec a HS has high power. Thanks for replying

Re: NWR: Hair Straighteners.......

FUNNY CUZ I had to bring over like 10 hair straighters to greece when I went....

and they were all SOL b/c of the power cords...
So I ended up getting a universal cord thingy....
and It worked fine. I brought over my ceramic straightner

I never used a straightner in Greece but I'm sure it would work fine with the adapter.

The lady that does my hair is from Greece. I'll askk her if there is any European straightener that she recommends, It probably would be a good idea for you to buy one you can use year after year.

Re: NWR: Hair Straighteners.......

I went for 2 summers overseas and most girls didn't have a problem...but both of my hair dryers smoked and stopped working after I plugged them in the adapter. They said it depends on voltage and one of the girls I was travelling with bought a European one and we all shared it. Sorry wish I could be more help, but just ask for anything that's compatible with teh country! HTH

Yes make sure it will take it. Cause when I went to italy I used it and it burne dout the adapter cause the starighter was to powerful. so make sure you use one that is powerful enough. or just buy one over there.

Thanks, yeah this is exactly what I am worried about, burning out my HS and my adapter then I wont have it to charge my other things, then I will be in a panic, lol. I think I may just buy a better one from there so I wont have to worry

Just make sure the adapter can hold the voltage in the straighter...check the voltage on ur straightner and then get an adapter that can hold the same amt

OMG...funny story about hair and overseas!!!!

So in 2005 when I went to Italy we had just redone our house there. I had just gotten back home from the beach with my cousin. She dropped me off at my house so I could shower and get ready for dinner and went back to her house. So I showered and was doing my make-up and then drying my hair. I had the bathroom light on, the bedroom light, the hallway light and the living room light on. (Mind you we only have the minimum electricity there because we only go to Italy every other year.
I was loving the hair drier my mom bought for our house and saying to myself that it was way better than the one I had here in NY...well then everything went dark.......
]

I had to make my way down the steps in the dark and call my uncle so he could explain to me what I had to do to turn the power back on. Well I learned my lesson...from that day on...I made sure that I only turned on the medicine cabinet light when I dried my hair!!
